Since the new motor went in I have noticed some slippage out of my 727 so I've decided to rebuild a core that I had in corner of the garage for a few years. The core is a 71 unit from a std performance 440 car. The first step was easy, taking the trans apart. We will soon find out if it will go together as easy as it came apart.

I started out by bagging and labeling all of the small parts. Next was a trip the the hot tank.

All of the boars were checked for ware and scoring, then honed with a crossbuff.

The pointer in this shot points to a 1/8th hole I drilled into the return line channel to feed additional oil to the sprag.

stay tuned for part 2

I know a guy that does that 1/8" hole, but I have been using a 1/16" hole located directly behind the inner race, which then escapes to the rollers radially out. 1/8" just seems big to me, leaving less for the rest of the trans lube/cooling circuits.

That is a nice job cleaning the case. I hate cleaning the outside of the case.
