02 WJ Grand Cherokee 2 Wheel Drive! I have seen a few XJ 2WD over the years but never a 2WD WJ until this weekend.

My nephew bought it last summer, brought it to me to "go over" before he makes a 1000 mile trip to the east coast with it sometime this week.

also when did the Dana 35s go back to a Mopar 8-1/4/Ford 9" style axle bearing?
he was getting some squealing from the rear brakes, thought he needed them changed/ nope blown axle seal saturated the E brake shoes on driver side. Figured I had ~an hour and a 1/2 to 2 hour job, pull cover, pop C clips, pull axles, swap seals, and reassemble.
but, no I had to buy $80 worth of bearings to replace 2 $3 seals... good thing I now have my own hydraulic press, otherwise no place open on the weekend to have these bearings pressed... went thru a couple of Dremel cut off wheels cutting the old retainer sleeve, and bearing cages and inner races off the axles there was nothing wrong with them besides having to destroy the bearings to access the seals. NOT what I was counting on.

i had a rear seal leak on my 04 GC i was able to press the bearing and retainer off, replace the seal and press the bearing and retainer back on,i made a couple of punch marks on the axle at the retainer to prevent it from coming loose, been a couple of years,so far so good

my ladder of success is missing some rungs

I have seen plenty of 2wd wranglers.

Ah thanks. So the D35 in the back of my 97 Wrangler should still be C clip right? or was it a body style thing? (like only on GCs maybe?)
I had an 01 XJ w/ a D35 (all with 4 wheel ABS had the D35 instead of the mopar 8-1/4 as I was told back when I owned that XJ)
when I had XJ #2 (97, no ABS) that one had the 8-1/4 so the relationship between ABS and which rear was used could be accurate.
but must be "body specific" because there ain't any ABS on my Wrangler and it is a D35.

Where? The one ones I'm aware of are the lame duck 07-10 4dr wranglers. And perhaps a very few tj's.

Well the only one I specifically remember off the top of my head was a sales lady at the Honda dealer I worked at had one, she bought it used but not very old, I worked there between 02-06 and it was near the middle of my tenure that she worked there. It had a 4 cylinder and a 904. It was OBD II so I would say it was real late 90s early 2000s.

I have an 04 Grand Cherokee.

It's weird as the front axle is solid like a trailer axle.

The mileage is a little better than friends that have the identical version in 4x4.

I love it!

There is a fair amount of 2wd XJs and WJs around here, enough that you have to be careful about getting excited when you see a cheap price lol. I have never seen a 2wd TJ but I have seen and helped a 2wd JK out of the snow.

Solid front axle is also found under postal Jeep front ends. Saves the cost of tooling up another suspension.
