How do you guys do a slide in and an enclosed trailer? I cannot leave my tail gate down without hitting the trailer, so the bigger slide in, I don't think will work.

2500 with a 6.5 box....

I've seen extended trailer tongues and or hitches.....maybe a trailer toad...????

I extended the trailer tongue on my boat trailer to work with my 80's D150 long-bed with an 11' slide in but it was a light boat.

Can't tell if that is sarcasm or not, my point was, anything that hangs further than the bumper will hit the trailer. A lot of the campers hang out as far as the tail gate would be as if it was down.

Nope, not sarcasm.

The 1 1/2' that the tailgate gives you really doesn't do much when the 6 1/2' is supporting the rest. It's not going to overbalance and fall out without the tailgate is it? The far corners are just out there doing nothing but getting in the way.

As long at the camper is secured in there, drop the tailgate and go.

If not, I don't see any other option than change trucks and go with a full 8' box or go to the other way and have a 6.5 camper with the tailgate up.

If your really, really feel like you need that section in there to hold the camper, you can have a metal shop build you a tailgate with only a center-section and the corners cut out of it. Been done before on those "air" gates for fifth wheels except you want it the other way around.

By the way that trailer toad thing is $3300.00, a metal shop can beat that by a significant amount.

Or, no tailgate: Free.

Pretty sure that slide in camper is going to hang out also?

Trade the shortbed 2500 for a long bed dually.

It will, but should only take up 4 feet in the center so the trailer can't reach it unless it's really jackknifed.

It's the outer corners of the tailgate that catch on a trailer.

At this point, need a photo so we are all on the right page.

I have a 06 dually with an 8' bed with a 11'6" camper. I tow a 24' enclosed all over. Since it overhangs 3'6" I had to put a 4' extension bar on. To get one rated for the load I had to put a class 5 hitch with a 2 1/2" receiver. The camper is around 4400lb loaded. THat with the load equalizer bars it does it fine. I think a 2500 you would want airbags.

From here it looks like all that is in the way is the jack, so, cut that jack out of there and weld on a swivel jack outside of the A-Frame:

The campers usually are lower than the bed of the truck in the back. Mine is about 3" lower. It would be some serious magic to get the trailer hooked up to the ball, requiring the camper to be lifted. If you get a decent size camper, there is no way to do it without an extended hitch. Even you extended the tounge of the trailer, it still would hit the camper on bumps. I'll see if i can find a pic of my setup.

Might look at moving the electric jack back to the front nose wall of the trailer. You get a lot more room for the gate, etc.
