I am building a 440 for a fellow Moparts member and he has a solid(3 bolt)Purple shaft with no paperwork and I was wondering what cam it was by checking lobe lift before I bolt it together.

Gus You can just use the reverse math to find the lobe size of the cam that you have. While your lobe size wont match perfectly with the exact math it will be cose enough to determine Witch cam you have.

Example the lobe lifts for some of the purple shaft are as follows by dividing valve lift by 1.5 rocker ratio to get lobe height.

MP .528 = .352 lobe lift

MP .557 = .371 -------

MP .590 = .393 ----

I find the actual lobe lifts to generaly be just a little less then the Actual Math specs..

Example, if you measure a .370 lobe lift, You sure as heck dont have the .590 or the .528 stick, it would be the mp .557.

Even though the spec.doesnt match perfect to the math ,its close enough for the identification. mike
