With all the different stroker kit choices out there today, I wanted to see what the forum recommends that has good durability/performance, but does not break the bank. I have two engines right now that I'm looking to install stroker kits. One engine is a 340 and the other is a 440 (both bored 0.030 over). I'm also interested to hear your recommendation for heads too.

I won't be at the drag strip evey weekend (at least I say that now), but would like to partake in the drag racing festivities at various Mopar events.

Thank you in advance for your input and Happy New Year!

Vinny

K 1 technologies for the small block, they're a pain to deal with but once it is delivered it is extremely high quality.

Hope everyone as a Happy and Safe New Year!

I'm gonna go with the 'source 4.5" stroker kit for a 440 block I have when I get caught up on other projects that are ahead of it. Tho I do think an Ohio crank kit or similar would be better quality

The Scat kits are very good quality for street strip plus type builds. Under 500-525 Horsepower type build and their cast crank kits are a good value. Brian at IMM Engines has even checked their internally balanced kits and said they were fine for street/strip non 100% race duty.

I bought my 416 kit from Brian. Crank spec'd out fine and everything else. Good kings bearings, IIRC speed pro rings, etc.

I had a great experience dealing with Muscle Motors.

I've had good luck with Ohio Crank for my big block kits. Have only had one small issue and they addressed it immediately with no hassle.

According to me:

If you're buying 4340 stuff and forged pistons there isn't a really bad choice out there. I don't think there's a spits worth of difference in the cranks, IMHO the raw forgings all come from the same place, also most rough machining is done in the same place. It used to be that Scat had better QC on the finished journals, but there have been several posts in the last year that said the others measure true and round.

Connecting rods I am sure the H-beam forgings all start out the same. Different companies machine them a little differently. I-beams (I prefer the style) may start out with different forgings. Either way they are all stronger than stock and the 7/16 rod bolts are what Mopar should have used in the beginning.

Now if you're building something that will break a stock block then my words have less value. There may be some better than others. But for a street sometimes strip car that runs 10.0s or slower I see no appreciable difference in FUNCTION.

Pistons are nearly the same, it depends on what you need. One brand might be a little better fit in terms of comp height or valve notches or whatever. But again if you're 10.0 or slower, JE or Wiseco or Diamond or RaceTech or Ross or Icon will get the job done.

We are living in a golden age, one can buy parts to do nearly everything for far less in real dollars than ever before.

So find some person on the other end of the line that you can talk to when you need to, and buy from them. Then pay the extra money to have a local machinist check all the parts and plan to do a little fixing, like piston pin bores can need tweaking.

Even if you buy a prebalanced kit, the sizes still need to be checked. Balancing doesn't include checking things like rod bore sizes or crank throw sizes.

R.

Many successful engines have been bought mil order, slapped together and run without any kind of check, but there are lucky folks out there. If one puts $1500 in a set of parts it'd be smart to do a little checking before assembly.

My stroker has an Eagle crank,K-1 rods, and Wiseco pistons. The only issues I encountered were slightly tight pins on a few rods that were easily fitted with some fine emery cloth. The other issue was the Eagle crank wasn't drilled deep enough or the correct size for a pilot bearing.I had to use the late model pilot that uses the torque converter register pilot and I had to whack .750 off my brand new Richmond 5-speed input

Muscle Motors took much longer than I was quoted to deliver my parts, and I understand that stuff happens and things get delayed. The reason I will never deal with them again is that over the course of the 6 months I was dealing with them, I called them and left messages (on a machine and talking to a real person) probably 6-9 times. I NEVER received 1 call in return. Look elsewhere for someone to take your hard earned money.

I'd echo the sentiments on the BPE stuff, and on issues with MM. The MM deal was a customer's as he dealt with them but they were difficult to get even when hounded, and we ended up waiting just on them. The wait and stories were kind of expected and easy to shrug off but when I found one of the rod bearings was not completly chamferred either it irritated me. Check everything carefully before it just gets slapped together.

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

I used the 440Source kit (4.15 crank , rods and pistons) and had the same issue as all the wrist pins were a tad tight. I also sized mine to my liking as I honed them a bit but it was no big deal at all to me. Ron
