The front D/S on the '74 W200 Power Wagon I bought last month has well worn, rusty and worn-out slip splines. The rear D/S, while much better seems fairly well worn too.

Is there some more affordable way to refurbish them than taking them to a D/S Repair shop? I was thinking about searching my local Pick A Part junkyard for potential replacements.

Any better ideas? I don't plan on spending $400 each or more to get them fixed except as a last resort.

On my Jeep, I once successfully cut up an old D/S and rewelded it to the correct length, keeping it in-phase and the balance was fine too.
