I was looking around for a dump truck to build some road and my neighbor said he had something that would work. To my surprise it was this!

It's a 361-2, np-540 5-speed, two speed rear with a PTO driven dump. The strange thing is that the door plate says it's a '75? The other strange thing is that it has the pie plate grille/headlight bezels.

Is it possible that it sat on the lot as a straight truck for three years? More to come tomorrow when I drive it down the mountain and clean it up. Hopefully I can do some work to the bed and start hauling stone from the quarry next door before the snow flies!

What year is the Kenworth? Surprised it still has 6-bolt wheels! You definitely live in the Sweptline area, there is nothing like that around the Midwest anymore.

I picked this one up because at 3.2 miles from my house (nearest neighbor up the mountain) it was the closest of all sweptline dump trucks available. There is a 1941 (?) flat fender behind the Kenworth that was an oil drilling rig. Nobody wants old stuff out here unless it's mainstream cliche stuff ( cuda, camaro, corvette, etc) so I'm stuck using it all for road building.

So why is it strange to have six bolt wheels? Everything underneath looks factory. If this dump truck was modified ( cab swap, etc ) it was long ago. Original radiator, PTO drive line looks untouched, wiring, brake lines, etc. all OEM appearing. Once I get it out of the weeds I'll do more digging. It has a canister type oil filter that uses an element instead of the common screw on filter. I had to laugh because I was told it was a 1977 f600 with a 318.

There is lots of trucks like that in the Midwest. Many with very low miles. Think grain truck that drove 5 miles to town two months out of the year.... We just missed out on a 75 D600 with 29,000 miles.

Was the 75 D600 of the newer body style? I'm still perplexed at the door tag on this one.

Yes, 74 was the "new" body style. Would Canada have this other style a few more years?

I thought the last year for this body style was 1973? Please elaborate.

That is too funny Hans. I have already been trying to decide if I should take those off and hang them in the shop of run them.

Got a pic of the door plate? Maybe the '75 is a typo and should be '65? (based on your comment about the pie plate headlight rings).

All the ones I have found in Canada made the switch to the new body style in 74 event he Fargo's.

There is some interesting information on this website about these old trucks.

Door handles and hood date it to 1967 model. Early 67 with the mid 65 to early 67 grill

100% what I was thinking. I'll have to get an eye on the tag and see what is says. And the title...

That is why I was talking about the 6-bolt wheels, they went to 8-bolt in 69. I was thinking 67 also.

No, 6 bolt wheels are standard. The cast spoke wheels are optional.

I should add that I have also seen 10 bolt wheels but those are usually on the 700's and 800's Never seen 8 bolt wheels on anything bigger than a 400.

That is a cool truck but I need something a little larger for my project. I'd have bought it in an instant anyway lol.

We finally for the old truck down off of the mountain today. What a trip. I'll clean it up over the weekend and give everything a once over before we start fabricating the box sides and spreader tail gate. I think the ODO says 37xxx miles. The guy I bought it from has a complete hydraulic winch setup with bumper and all he is going to throw in too. Not bad considering that I've spent more money on a porting a set of cylinder heads!

Once we get the '71 Kenworth running I'll be working on getting this thing out and maybe even running for a yard unit. And then there is the '58 Power Wagon but that's a story for another day!

I think we see why the previous owner consistently insisted that this was a "75" lol. I have never had a certicard for a truck. We found it in the back of the seat!

This flat deck with the saddle tank looks bad! Did you lower it? It kind of looks like you did, the stance is just right

I actually bought it that way locally. All the previous guy did was to remove several front springs, still seems to drive OK.

Looks like it's a 175" wheelbase, nice! My '69 L-600 cab over has the six lug wheels on the front, the rears are rings with retaining wedges. No certicard that I have found but I hope I find one.My body tag is missing, only a decal with the VIN.Plus it's been shortened so no idea what lenght my wheelbase was.Lots of cool trucks posted here!
