I don't know why they're picking '05 as a starting date, lots of late nineties pinion nuts came loose.

not only did my 98's pinion nut come loose it exploded. That was expensive

I don't have a picture but have done my share of pinion nut recalls.
The retainer is like a thick snap ring with two threaded holes for set screws to wedge it tight. All this fits between the pinion but and the flange.
