Are the A-body aluminum driveshaft safety loops still made that attach to the transmission crossmember, and if so who sells them? They were sold on e-bay at one time. Just can't remember who it was. Thanks!

Aluminium ??? U S Cartool makes them in Steel < I would imagine something in alum would be almost as heavy as steel to have the same strength ???

On that note I can't say that I have ever seen an Alum one , is that even <insert racing body here> legal ?

I have an aluminum one for a B-body and it is considerably lighter than steel. Just need one for the Pure Stock races, so I'm not concerned if it's NHRA legal.

I'm using one similar to this on my 69 Dart.

It may be considerably lighter than steel but it would be interesting to see what it , and the floor pan , looks like should the shaft do the unthinkable.

Where did you get the B body one ?

1967-1976 A-Body (Duster, etc)

Metco's one-piece driveshaft safety loop is custom-designed to fit the floor pan of the 1967-1976 MoPar A-Body. The ring is made from seamless DOM steel in an oversize dimension to accommodate lowered vehicles and aftermarket driveshafts. The flanges are laser-cut from heavy-duty steel and the assembly is precision-welded in a fixture. The finished loop is powdercoated black and packaged with installation instructions and Grade 8 hardware.

This driveshaft loop is designed to mount to the floor pan within six inches of the front universal joint, with the loop oriented up in the transmission tunnel. Installation requires that the user add four holes to the floor pan for the provided mounting bolts. Installation instructions are included.

An Alum driveshaft safety loop IMO ranks right up there with an Alum roll bar. Can be done, I sure would not do it, and likely not legal anywhere. Save weight with an alum DS first if that is the objective, which would give an Alum safety loop a fighting chance.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Aluminum driveshaft is likely to reduce rotational inertia if the diameter or thickness isn't increased too much. Aluminum driveshaft loop should be low on the weight savings list of things to do.
