Is Indy the only one offering a 2-piece valley plate? And what is your experience with them? Leaks? Other problems? They sure are a lot more expensive than the one piece. But if I ever had to pull a head just to change a lifter, it would probably seem a bargain. Any thoughts and suggestions would be apprciated.

I had mine cut in half at an angle, got the idea from a board member here with a red GTX.

Best $50 I ever spent. I just put RTV around each piece and bolt them on. No leaks. The ones with the window in the middle of them are still gonna require head removal if they leak around the outer perimeter.

at one time Indy made 2 piece plates done like yours.
i had planned on splitting one, but with the cut being made close to one side so that only one piece would need to be removed.
no need to now, Jack Moore (Moore & Moore) gave me a great deal on one of the window type.

ps, standard plate is for sale

I make two piece center sections for RB motors with Indy heads. Mine are more expensive than the Indy ones but mine have an o-ring and are machined rather than cast.

Have any of you ever sprung a leak with those 'window' plates? Didn't it totally stink to have to remove a head or two just to seal it back up?

I had a leak once, little bit of "the right stuff" and the leak was gone. I didn't pull the heads and I knew the next time, even with a o-rings on the sides, it still needed a good coating of silicone.

It's very nice each spring when I put the pushrods back in and the rockers back on I can make sure they are in the cups of the lifters without messing with lot's of silicone to seal it back up.

I stopped making the plates with side o-rings since they would always leak a little tiny bit at the edges unless they had RTV there. A thin layer of RTV on the edge works pretty well. I make the plates so that there is only a small air gap between the plate and the head (0.050 or so) which is easily filled with RTV. Some of the cast plates on the market have edges that appear to be finished on a belt sander and they require a ton of RTV to seal up.
