I need to purchase a period correct alternator and starter for my 440 HP engine (1970 Dodge Coronet R/T). Does anyone re-manufacture those components?

When you say period correct what do you mean? Any parts store will carry the type of alternator and starter your car came with. If you have your originals you should be able to find a rebuilder close to you. Check the yellow pages.

I did not know the franchise auto parts stores carried the brand/type of alternators and starters that came with the vehicle.

What if the OP's original 1970 alternator is only rated at 37 amps? I can't find one company that has a rebuilt 37 amp alt for Dodge/Plymouth 1970-71.

There are 45-50 amp alts and 46/60 amp alts all day long.

The Advance/Autozone/PepBoys etc parts stores all need a 'current/modern (ie 'their') part number to enter into the alternator testing machine to test old alternator - does anyone know what p/n will cross reference for 1970-71 37 amp alt?

As best I can tell the reason we can't find 'em is because the rating method used by Chrysler and the method used by the aftermarket is different. Look in a Factory service manual and you'll see the rating was for a specific load and rpm. In other words the exact same alternator would be rated 37 amps by Chrysler and 48 amps by ABC Rebuilding Co.
