I've always wondered....

In the LX cars the 5.7 Hemi cars can have their traction control reduced roughly 50% by turning it off on the dash.

The 6.1 Hemi SRT cars can FURTHER deactivate their traction control by pushing the button in and holding it, something like 10 seconds. It reduces traction control by roughly 95% I am told.

If this is true, is it the same for the Challengers?

What traction setting are you guys launching at in the SRT8 cars?

My buddy has gone 12.93 @ 107.75 mph in a stock 300 SRT8, he did that with traction control knocked off 50%. He knocked it off to 95% and most of his runs were in the 15s....

I don't think the stick cars have the ESP at all. I am sure somebody can confirm.

To completely bypass the traction control on an RT you have to hold the key (as if you are trying to start the car) until the chime (just a few seconds) while driving >10 mph (Simply hitting the ESP butting only partially deactivates it), then its good until the car is turned off. The procedure needs to be repeated with every start if you wish to keep the traction control disingaged.

I read where this makes the car peg leg since the auto's have an electronic type posi (for lack of better words), however mine left two equal black patches when I tried it.

The 6 speeds do not have to do this procedure nor the the SRT auto's. Only the Rt auto's.

I think I heard that's only good for certain year LX cars, late 2006 and up?
Is that true?

We have a 2006 R/T and it doesn't work on our car!
(Ask me how I know! )

Funny....I read it on a Charger forum and tried it on my Challenger and it works fine. I dont understand why they would make on the RT auto with the partial bypass anyhow...but at least there's the procedure to bypass it until the tuner becomes available.

When you made your 13.1 run were you on 50% ESP or ??
How did you launch?

I just wonder if the ESP setting combined with launch technique is maybe a factor in the 1/4 mile time differences..???

I ran it with the ESP button off...not the procedure I just described. I was not aware of the key trick at that time.

My best time came with 20 psi air in the rear tires and flashing to car from a dead idle. The one time I brought it up to 1000 rpm, it had a 2.45 60' and ran a 14.45 @ 106.

On a side note I cant see how an RT is faster. I think the SRT's will run consistent high 12's easily once more people get them to the track and practice.

My 09 Challenger R/T auto went 13.45 at 104.88. That was with the traction control on. I turn it off with the button on the dash to do the burnout and then turn it back on before staging. The 60fts were horrible with the traction control on but much worse than with it off. Also 14.20 was et with it off. Also I was going half deep which kills the 60ft and also the E.T. One more thing to mention I had a full tank of gas. On a test and tune night I will try with 1/4 tank of gas and shallow stage. I'm real sure there is a 13.20 pass in the furure. Now the six speed car I will guess a 12.80 to 12.90. Seems quite a bit quicker. Can't wait til March to find out for sure. Guys that have not bought one, this is the car we have been waiting for. The dealers are dealing I know, I have two of them. Chrysler needs help, what a good way to help the economy and Mother Mopar stay in business.

This was my first of 3. It was a 3.5 auto. and ran great. Dealer lied and said R/Ts were $10000 more and a six month wait. So I bought the V6 car. A few days later I seen a few at another dealer that were 5.7 Hemi R/Ts and were not sold. I was pissed allready and then seen the price was only $5000 more. So I traded in a six day old car with 106 miles on it. Took a $2250 loss but I buy at Chrysler employee price so I still wound up with a R/T for $1000 less than sticker in late august when the dealers were adding as much as $2000 to sticker. Then 1 month later I bought the six speed for $1000 less than Chrysler employee price. I'm easy make me a deal like that and I can't say no. Now I have 2 car payments that equal allmost $1100 a month + the insurance, Whew

You are right....I imagine more Challengers will turn faster times once people figure out how to launch and minimize race weight. I ran mine with a 1/4 tank of gas. FWIW...mine weighed 4120 with me and half a tank of gas. So by the time I ran it it was likely less than 4100lbs. Now....where to lose 300 or 400 pounds?

I have since added a magnaflow competition cat back exhaust with more mods to follow while it's it sits through the winter.

They're test driving the Challenger SRT8 in about 30 minutes from now on Speedvision.

so who plans to make some motor/tranny upgrades to see how fast they REALLY go??

is there any "BOLT-ON" parts that will make it faster/quicker??

Nothing short of a disappointment when you have stock 300C's in the 12's!

Ther only 300C's running high 12's stock are the STR8's (426 HP)...and that is extremely rare. I maintain the Challengers (SRT8's)will run 12's once people actually get them to the track more and get familiar with launching them. I ran 13.12 with the 370 HP 5.7.

I haven't had our SRT8 300 to the track yet. But the "50%" traction seems to be the best. According to the performance timer in our car it did 0-60 in 4.88 seconds and that is just like it came off the showroom floor.

I found the key is to get the tires to spin just enough so when it does hook up it doesn't pull down the engine to much.

I know this 300 is the funnest car I have ever owned. I love my cuda, but for everyday driving you can't beat the SRT8 cars.
