Is the bolt pattern on a V-10 truck engine able to be adapted to a small block bell housing? For some reason I think the V10 is similar to a Cummins diesel pattern-SAE. I have a truck with an LA 318 that uses the bell housing for a rear motor mount with a NP-435 transmission and would like to retain it if possible. The truck is a 2-1/2 ton cabover I was thinking of putting in a Magnum 5.2,but sold the donor truck.I then thought since going through a swap, why not a V10 instead!

IIRC, the V 10 is the same as an LA.They just added 2 more cylinders.Had one and all the water pump stuff etc was just like SB.

Wikipedia says you are right. And there is a bell on Flea bag right now advertised as 5.9 cummins AND V10 gas.
I stand corrected.Apologies

From what I've read this is correct.

The Viper V10 also has the same bell pattern.

I've seen v10 engines for sale from trucks converted to diesels that's why I was wondering about the bell pattern. The diesels apparently use a SAE bolt pattern,#3 or 4 I guess years may be different.I did find some bell adapters from SAE to small block Mopar.A flywheel spacer may be different for the v10 vs diesel though.

That is incorrect. The aluminum viper V10 uses the normal small block bellhousing pattern. The iron block truck V10 does use the cummins SAE bellhousing.

The ones I worked on didn't have a SB block pattern, they look more like the V10 and Cummins although I never measured or tried to bolt one up.

Well after further research I've found that both of us are wrong. The Viper V10 uses a pattern similar to the small block but the bolt holes do not line up, apparently it's one all it's own, why they did that I have no idea. I put a clutch in a '92 a long time ago and it didn't look like a SB pattern to me but I guess it's similar.

gas truck v10 and cummins are identical and are not an SAE pattern---i have heard the viper motor is also identical because the cummins 727 (89-91) is being on the viper motor for drag racing.....
