Not an inline shifter or a rachet shifter. H pattern with L bracket and longer, larger rods.Used by most of the early pro stock drivers when they used the Hemi 4 spd incl Sox,Landy etc etc.Ram rod came later. They called them Super Shifter 1,2,3, came later.

This is a Super Shifter III mounted with the Supershifter install kit. It did require butchering the floor. If you don't want to cut the floor then mount it on the standard Competition Plus bracket. They never made a kit like this for the E body because the shifter is already high and rearward. When I bought a SuperShifter for a Cuda back in the early 70's I called Hurst and asked why there was no listing for an E body kit and they said just buy the tower and a 7" straight handle, no need for a kit. The kit was for A and B body cars that had the forward mounting point.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

I have a Super Shifter in my AAR right now. It is not the III like pictured, but the lockout is just pushing down for reverse. It came with the kit that included long, straight rods and a big "S" bracket that moved it up and over. It would have required me to cut the the hump more to use it. I did not want to do that. I just used the OEM rods and levers and it works great. Best shifter I've ever had. I has a shorter throw and is very positive. Every time I drive my buddy's 4 speed Superbird, I want to break into a round of " Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream"!

I have the same SuperShifter II as Fastmark in my Barracuda. Uses stock ebody rods, levers, mount and boot. No cutting what so ever. Quote:
And also, is there any reason why these things are retarded prices on Ebay? Theres one, shifter only for $400. There's also a complete unit for $900, and another complete unit (though signed by someone famous, i forget) for $1300.
Since you won't need the bracket and rods anyway you can buy one out of any car. Mine started life in a vette and cost me $125 on ebay. The vette bracket and rods are somewhere in my garage. Anybody want them?

Here's a picture of the E-body Supershifter III that I use in my Savoy. It does not use the reverse lockout that most Supershifter units have and this is my second Supershifter that I have owned without the lockout. I really don't know when where or why they made them both ways but in either form they are a very nice H-pattern shifter At a weekend race once with time trials I made 26 passes without missing a shift So once you get it setup right with good linkage it's hard to beat. I ran a Hurst super shifter 3 on my 65 Olds 442. Very tight shifter. Those fat, straight rods really give you a positive feel. WAY tighter than a comp plus or stock pistol grip. You do have to cut the floor because the rods don't t have dog legs. Absolutely loved it and wish I'd never sold it. If I were building a 4 speed car I'd put one it it.
I’m listening.

The steel mounting bracket moves the shifter up and over to your leg where it feels natural. A Competition Plus will bolt up to the steel bracket because the bolt pattern is the same. Gus

Back in the early 70's I bought a original super shifter after going to one of Dick Landy's clinics that he had at a local dodge dealership. At that time he had a super shifter in the challenger that he brought to show. I had a 68 roadrunner that was a street/strip car. The next day I ordered the shifter. It came with the L bracket that raised and set back the shifter into the car, major cutting was required. The shifter did not come with a reverse lock out, that came later , it was just a side plate that you could move up and down with a piece of threaded rod and a red round ball on it . After the roadrunner I put the shifter in a 63, 64, plymouth and then the 67 barracuda. I don't remember using the L bracket in the 63, 64 but the barracuda did not need it. Some cutting was required on the crossmember and floor towards the back of the original shifter hole. The proper shift bracket was needed to rotate the shifter to work.
it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I thought the super shifter 3 was great just like you guys. And then I tried a Long shifter. The difference is night and day. I will never go back to a Hurst.
