As my 1971 Duster project moves forward, I am looking for some input into the cooling system. As the car is on the rotisserie, I’m going to open up the core support to accept a 26” radiator; so here is my current thinking for a cooling system for this setup:

Champion radiator: CC1643
Champion fan shroud FS374
The shroud accepts two 12” electric fans; what fan to use that the MegaSquirt can control or a Ron Francis XP-777 wiring harness with a delayed cooling system shutdown kit CD-36 or the duel fan controller AR-99.

Any recommendations on the radiator, shroud or 12” fans?

As I said, I’ll be going with the MegaSquirt MS3 and a F&B 85MM cable operated throttle body from EFI source. The motor will be cleaned up, new rings opened up and bearings with a Frank Racing 219/227 @ .050 camshaft and springs with the mandatory TTI headers and exhaust backed by an 833 overdrive 4-speed.

I’ve been getting guidance from Wade (uncoog1) and Alex (AlexP) as they have both been involved with my build. The rest of the car will have Borgeson P/S, US Car Tool chassis Stiffening kit, all new suspension components, 4-wheel manual big bolt discs, 11.7” with Viper calipers, 16” steel wheels with poverty caps and A/C.

The goal is to drive and handle like modern muscle/pony car while looking like a stock 71 Duster 340, Alpine White, matt black 340 stripes, V24 blackout hood, cowl, fender, door tops with 340 WEDGE callout, black/charcoal bucket seats, etc.

I live in Texas, it’s hot in the summer and I’m building a driver/show car that my wife and I can drive with the A/C in heavy traffic in August when it’s 100 degrees or cruise down the freeway at 75Mph;

Overheating is not an option!

Get one with 2x1.5" tube core or maybe the Champion 3x.75 tube core minimum. Don't skimp here and you will be fine.

no idea on what your items cost.
I got a dual pass rad from 4seconds flat.
my only issue is that both inlet and outlet are on the same side, and when I swapped motors, it caused me an issue. I run a metal hose to cross over. They make a triple pass that I might consider next time.

I run the monster mercedes fan in one of the threads you can find here.
only a 5.9 mag motor. Dave sells a controller for it so you can control the cheaper aftermarket fans, and it gives it variable speeds so it can be quiet when it doesn't need as much cooling.

I too am in texas, and have not had any issues with sitting in traffic or parades while running this combo.
I even laid a fan across my rad support and air cleaner and it moved enough air to keep the car cool while idling.

might be a bit more than the combo you are planning on, depending on where you source your parts.
if you get a stock fan, you can skip the controler as it only takes power to 1 wire to fire it up. has a built in relay so you still have to wire power and ground seperate, but the ms can control it via single line. but you won't have variable speed then.

there are other options, and cheaper options, but for myself, feets and a few others, this hasn't let anyone overheat, even feets TT440 was kept cool with this fan and a stock copper rad.

the aluminum dual pass, for me, just gives me extra margins when I run a/c and stuff sitting still.

oh, all crammed in a 65 coronet with the original 22 inch opening. but the rad is set up with the 26 inch dimensions. oh and no built in cooler.

The ms3 system will send a signal to a wired in relay to turn on the fans at what temperature you choose. The system doesn't care what kind of fan. It's been a while since I did the swap and used the ms3, but I believe you can have it stay on a delay after shutting the engine off also.

On the fans... a lot of the generic aftermarket fans are pretty feeble. You would need two really high end (expensive) 12" fans to get the job done. I'd think you would need at least 5000 rated CFM.

If you can adapt an OE type fan much better value and more effective. The Chevy HHR fan is supposed to be good and the Mercedes fan mentioned above very good. 12" (approx) fans were used on some Durangos so maybe look there.
