The Grand State of Confusion-O...
Good enough for a 4000lb B-body w/automatic street car?
This is for a customer, and will never see the track. He just wants something that sounds good, that he can beat on every once in awhile, but he also only wants to build this engine one time.
The core engine is a low mileage unit out of a motorhome.

Use the crank or toss it?

Don`t see why not..........I know someone running deep 9`s w/a cast small block crank and he spins it up pretty good.

My motor started out in a full size B 100 short wheel base van. Untouched iron heads and next to no cam yet still went 14.20's. Still have the same rotating assy (cast crank, 6pk rods) since 2000.

I say use it

No problem. Use it.Mopar cranks are not prone to breaking.

When I saw this thread, the first thing that came to me was about 18 to 20 years ago Herb McCandless was selling new Mopar 440 cast cranks for $50! At the time everybody wanted a steel crank but I wish I would have bought a few!

The cast crank in my 73 440 has seen a bunch of 11.70 passes in a 3500 pound 65 Plymouth turning 6500 rpm and lots of street miles I just put this same engine in my 73 dart so it is going to see lots more. This engine has not been apart in over 5 years now. so i say it should be fine with what you are going to do with it.Mopar65

Can hold up to at least 560 HP and 7,400 RPM if properly tricked out.

i rebuilt a 440 with the stock cast crank and verything else stock in it except the cam. i used it in my 66 dodge tow car with the old 60's long rams on it for years. then removed it and install in the 66 baracuda bracket hotrod and went 12.20's for a few years. after that it came out and went into my 66 satelite for a few more years to test plate nitrous systems i was building. it would run low 11/s on 3 stages but finally broke the tin valley pan and sucked the heat insulator into the motor and spun all the bearings. so in retrospec they are ok to use for what he wants to do with his motor.

Supposedly the NHRA stocker guys like 'em cause they weight about 5 pounds less, which is less spinning weight downstairs..

May next engine after the one I'm doing now will be all natrual... nothing exotic.. If it runs 10's , 11's or 12's I'l be happy..

440, 906 heads, small roller cam. set the lash once ayear. pump gas, I should be doing it now..

My first 440 was a cast crank motor that made about 525 hp at the crank. I ended up hurting the motor and had the rod journals cut .030 and put it back together. I ran that short block on the street for a couple of years before I retired it. It was sitting in my garage for a couple of years and then I sold it. I later found out that the same short block went into a car that was being sprayed with a 200 shot. I was shocked that it lived for a long time before it broke. So I would say yes to a cast crank in a street car.

this roadrunner in the netherlands runs in de 10's for years and runs a 440 with cast crank, stock rods, light keith black pistons and a 4-speed and he is spinning it to about 7000 rpm, can't believe it stay's together!

Yep, I've talked to some NHRA stock guys who run cast cranks just to save a few lbs. They spin those motors hard too. I'd never use a cast crank myself but if someone wanted to go that way I'd never tell them that it wouldn't work. They do have a power limit but I'm not sure what it is.

I bought a few of those new cast 440 cranks. Still have them after all of these years! I'll probably never use them, they just sit on the shelf.
