Got the first start and cam broken in yesterday. Went real smooth without a hitch. It's a 1974 engine I got out of a motorhome. I didn't use the six pack rods. Instead I picked up a nice set of .030 cast pistons on LY rods from a member here and used with them. It has an Edelbrock Performer intake and Headman headers. I used the 625 AFB I have to run it. Don't know yet if that is enough carb or not but it performed great on the break in. Just setting the timing by feel and turning it down to idle after the 30 minutes, the motor sounds pretty wicked thru open headers. I think I am going to be pleased with the cam.

This is what it is sitting in. 1983 shortbed. Amazingly rust free except under the battery tray. Was originally a slant six with lean burn. I have flipped the front leaf spring mounts and have installed drop shackles. I think the front is going to get van lower control arms in the very near future. The paint is good for the most part, needs a good buffing. Not trying to make a show piece out of it.

Just a front shot. I have installed an 8 3/4 with 3.91 sure grip. Hopefully can get it to the exhaust shop next weekend and I need to get its driveshaft shortened a bit. I have another windshield to put in too.

This parts truck made my life easy. Its a 1975, 440, 3/4 ton. Not only did it have the brake booster and radiator/shroud I needed it also had a TCI Streetfighter trans, a Powermaster mini starter, Hooker Super Comp headers, Edelbrock 600 carb, near mint MP valve covers, B&M shifter and a bunch of odds and ends. It had a TCI converter too but it was the high torque, low stall model. I picked up a TCI Breakaway converter for my truck. The guy I bought the truck drove it to my shop. It ran really good.

Inside or the parts truck. Has a really nice radio delete dash board. The cover for the shifter is behind the seat of the truck, still in the box, never used.

Not only that but where I live there is no salvage yard support to speak of and getting parts is a pain. That truck was just like one stop shopping. I talked with a couple of guys in town that wanted the truck but couldn't get it for one reason or another and they were shocked that I was going to strip it and part it out. The floor boards are pretty bad and the radiator support it rusted pretty good as well.

So here in the next couple of days I am going to get it up on my trailer, pull the rear end (Dana 60, 3.54 SG), drain the 3/4 tank of gas out of it and you will see it in the truck parts for sale forum being parted out. So if you see anything you need PM me then.

You still have that parts truck? I'm DESPERATELY looking for the under dash A/C ductwork that goes from the HVAC box to the drivers side vent...it's the ONLY piece I'm missing to finish out my dash-rebuild project...
