Well, changed my t-stat today. Used my vacuum tool to pump down the coolant system. Guess what? Sloshing in the dash is GONE!

I would still love for you to explain how that has anything to do with water sloshing in the dash? only water running through the dash is in the heater core. unless it's leaking into the heater box there is no way it can slosh. your intake or thermostat has absolutely nothing to do with it. if you have not run it in a while the leaking water could have evaporated or leaked out. sometimes on your carpet.

the sloshing noise will come from having air trapped in the heater core.i think that fancy filler pushes air out

never happen, and the reason I say that is there is not enough volume of water in a heater core to make a sloshing sound. take a look at an heater core and you should understand.

so, he's lying then? give it a rest. he fixed it, and described the fix.

no he just doesn't understand how it works, he may have fixed his but others with a leaky heater core will be wasting their time messing with that..

On my 1995 Ram Magnum 5.9 V8
I have heard
"running water noises"
from the passenger side of the dash
each time i have changed coolant.

It has happened with
50/50 antifreeze mix
straight water
and Evans NPG coolant, which is about as viscous as maple syrup.

I have been able to get rid of the water running like noise by parking the truck on a steep uphill and running the fully warmed up engine at 1500 RPM for ten to twenty minutes.

It is interesting to know that a vacuum filling technique helps on coolant. Vacuum filling certainly seems to help on brake fluid fills.

I know I presently have a slow coolant weep on the upper driver side corner of the timing cover gasket.
I suspect this is one source of air getting in the coolant system.

Small coolant leaks at the timing cover gasket corners seems to be common on older Magnum V8s.

I think we are talking about 2 different sounds/noise. running water vs sloshing. the leaking heater core sounds like a box full of water and usually happens when the vehicle is moving or turning which equals slosh. a running water sound could happen with the vehicle setting still and motor running.

you will also get a nasty smell when the heater core has leaked for a while

When the air is trapped at the highest point, which is the core, you get this noise. Universal problem across all manufacturers, which is why the tool was made.

If you have a core leak you also have similar noise from water moving around in the box and from the air introduced into the core from the leak.

Use the tool and you will quickly see you have a system leak. When you go to pull vacuum you will see the vacuum won't hold.
Up to you to figure out where the leak is.

Some of these know it all just really piss me off! I'm 47 years old, been working on cars since I could hold a wrench! ASE certified Master Tech! I wish people would get some real world experience and stop acting like they know everything when they don't know jack! Thanks to the people that do understand the newer vehicles and what knowledge they require. I'm just about done with this site and all the negativity!!!!!!!!

slow-twig.... it does sound like "sloshing". I've seen it, lived it more than a few times on the older BR/BE Dodge rams. Start them up cold in the morning and it will sound like a garden hose running.....I chit you knot!

only 47? I was working on cars when you were still in high school. did you miss the post where I described two different issues? saying your solution to your problem would correct a bad heater core is wrong, but you are ASE certified you should know that. and i'll bet I had ASE certification before you ever thought of it? don't be so dam thin skinned

Well it's not water running into the evaporator!! Like I mentioned way back..... bad radiator cap, air leak at the hose from the overflow can contribute to this airpocket which will lead to this issue.

it will lead to one of the possible issues. not the only cause
