Got a new '14 Durango RT in the family. Looking to hear about motor oil. I see there's a certain Mopar spec, and Mobil 1 is frowned upon on some forums. In Moparts land, what do we like for new Hemis?

I run Mobil 1 in mine. 10w30 or 5w30 in '06 I traded at 160k. Performance and oil consumption were as new.

I run the recommended 5w20 in the '11. It has 150k and performance and oil consumption as new also. I plan to run this one to 200k.

use 5-20 or the MDS will not work like intended and you will get mis-fire codes.

Change it 3-5000 miles depending on how you drive and it will live a long happy life. An extended oil change is marketing BS to make consumer reports happy about lower maintenance. The really long oil change interval is for people who pretty much drive OTR highway miles with no cold starts or city driving idling... Also when you get a proper oil change it gives you a chance to get under there and look for other issues, fill the windshield fluid, belts..

I run Mobil 1 synthetic 5W20. This last time I did a 10000 mile interval with a filter change at 5000 miles. Oil still looks great with 8500 miles into it.

The filter can not remove fuel or water vapor that ends up in the oil

I run 5w20 Pennzoil Platinum change every 5000 miles. I tried 5w30 during the summer once and it would throw a code occasionally.

Hey thanks guys. It's close to 3000 now and today I'm headed out to do it. I see the pennz platinum has the MS spec, so I'll use that at least this time. Also, went by the dealer and got a set of filters just to have.
