I jumped on the end of the year head porting deal offered in the Hot Deals Section on this site. so...

Before Porting, ask asked Jeff (Modern Cylinder Head) to flow a port for me. IMO it would have worked well, just as the MP crate engines come with a cam in the .525-.550 lift. I don't have the flow sheets in front of me, but the flowed pretty darn good down low, and mid lift.. From right off the top of my head flow numbers...

Just letting people know, I was under the impression that these heads flow 360-370 cfm OOTB, which doesn't really even come close.

Intake
.400-306cfm
.500-321cfm
.600-332cfm
.700-336cfm
.800-337cfm

exh
.400-209cfm
.500-198cfm
.600-198cfm
.700-198cfm

Boy they really shined above .400 lift hu
I believe they will pickup a little flow after his cnc port program has run it's coarse. I know 100hp is mucho to pickup on a head porting job, but I'M willing to bet it will be right there..

Gains....
+100cfm intake
+60cfm exh

If anyone on here doesn't know Jeff or the work he does, he is top notch, right along with his work...This isn't the first set of heads he has CNC'd for me, and probably wont be the last.

Happy holidays guys
Bob C

I don't know two diff head, two diff benches, two diff operators...about 5% diff between them, valve jobs, core shifts could account for some of that....
Dewayne does good work for sure, I have went to him for more than a few things too. He is a smart man, too bad he doesn't frequent the board more often now..

I don't get too hung up on numbers, what does matter is how the head porters heads run at the track..and I know the end results...

I wonder why the stock Edelbrock versions flow worse than the older ones?

Stage V is the way to go

chris you have a mopar head,, these are the edelbrock mopar heads, i did a minor bowl job as you wanted to those cause you didnt want your motor to make too much power,, so those numbers ootb are with some blending,, not much though.

ill post the numbers off bob's heads tomorrow,, before,, then once done,,, after...

uh oh. I don't know how mine flowed before porting

but this what they flow after Jeff ported them

Quote:

i was shocked by these numbers on the intake just as much as anyone looking at this,, this thing was wayyy good for a 2.250 valve.

superflow 600, 4.320 with bore notch, 28"

intake 2.250
.100-78.5 cfm
.200-162.4
.300-257.5
.400-342.4
.500-396.5
.600-422.4
.700-440.7
.800-450.6
.900-456.5

exhaust 1.940
open at flange/2.0" tube
.100-69.0/70.5
.200-146.2/152.4
.300-178.2/185.0
.400-208.4/220.8
.500-239.5/255.6
.600-259.1/274.0
.700-268.7/286.7
.800-273.7/293.6
.900-278.7/297.3

this is a std low exh port and a std int opening, its a good sized port but with only two pushrod tubes in the head, #1 and #5 exhaust. ferrea valves.

Those numbers look real close to the Stage V heads (Stage V ported) I had flowed on a Super Flow 600 bench several years ago, maybe a little better

My next motor will have the millenium heads. I wonder what would happen if I had my heads ported to the raised port roof height? I wonder if that would hurt them alot or help

I guarantee it will, might have to add some back into the floor.

I figured, and that would be expensive! well I wouldn't if I stuck a blower on the motor

as with all edelbrock heads there is some cartridge roll out of the box on these..

ill post the ported numbers once im done,, though its the same exh port that is in the older mopar head, and the same intake port thats in a stage v head once ported.

dwyane sent me an indy sr head to flow for him to see how the numbers compared from his bench to mine awhile ago,, once he bought a bigger bench,, the numbers were very close...

chris,, i dont think dwyane has a happy bench..

jeff, what did you get for unported Stage V heads

also, how do you like the Edelbrock heads compared to the old MP ones and compared to Stage V. Also what's your opinion on Indy 426-1 and 426-1RA

just to clarify my results....

these are pre-Edelbrock MP/110-M heads.
they had the MCH valve job and bowl blend, along with back cut Ferrea valves.

both tests were done on a 4.500 bore(these heads go on a 580ci motor), 1/2" radius plate air entry, and a 2 1/4" exhaust tube.
with no tube on the exhaust, the bowl blended port went about 200cfm, and around 255cfm after full porting.

my guess is, prior to Jeffs valve seat work and bowl blend, the intake ports probably would have struggled to break 300cfm.
looks to me like the new E head is a huge improvement over the older MP/110-M head in terms of OOTB flow.
