I just got a gear set from an early slant six 4 speed and want to put it in my A833. these gears have a low 3.09 first, 1.92 second, 1.40 third, 1:1 fourth gear.
here's the rest of my combo: 70 Charger with 4000lbs, 440 engine, 3.23 rear end, 26.6'' rear tires.
I think that the low first gear should help with launching my heavy car with its 3.23 rear gears. keeping the rear gears gives me decent top speed. Second gear drop could be an issue though?
what do you think about my setup?

I did the same thing years ago on a 1970 Duster SB drag car, 340 motor with 5:57 rear gears and the 3.09 1st gear made you stay busy the first 300 ft. of the track I was told by one of the back then factory backed drag racers we would break it eventually but we never did If you don't beat on it hard from a dead stop there is no reason for it to not work I never noticed the change of the RPM drop on that drag car, my wifes 1968 Baracuda 318 4 speed car had the same trans I think and it drove nicely as a family car I'm in the middle of building a 1966 Dodge Coronet Deluxe(two door sedan) ex slant six three speed into a 440 powered 4 speed aluminum 833 O.D. car, I won't beat on it hard from the stop either It is way worst on the gear sizes inside the case than the standard 833 4 speed are

Did a few calculations and I'm pretty sure that my combo isn't too bad after all:

3.09 first x 3.23 rear = 9.98:1 final ratio - pretty close to the ideal 10:1 everyone is talking about.

rpm drop between first (3.09) and second (1.92) isn't too dramatic either: 37.9% vs. 40.8% when using a TF727 (2.45 first to 1.45 second).
When shifting at 3500 I'll drop down to 2170 which is ok.

With the torque your motor should make it won't be an issue.
