This photo is to show you what the backside of the side perimeter pcs looks like, the piece in the rear shows the drill guide insert that I install when the piece is shipped to you, after your done drilling the stud location on the car, it removes with an Allen wrench, you then thread in the Stainless 10-32 stud that will later be nutted from inside the trunk to retain the side perimeter pcs

I predrill the side pcs that I send to you, the drill hole passes out thru to the outer surface, the hole is only .040 in diameter, this allows you to pinpoint exactly were the hole should be located for the stud that passes into the trunk compartment, when drilling this hole, make sure to re-install the louver center section, so that all the pcs are located properly

Remove the upper screw that you installed previously to attach the side perimeter piece to the upper perimeter piece, remove the side pcs, now the small pilot drilled hole is visible, and it's exactly where it needs to be, no guessing, no mistakes, no need to measure, and measure, a FACTORY louver has the stud glassed in the side piece, and this would cause grief trying to locate the hole and properly fit the pcs onto the car, I conceived this technique to eliminate guessing/error during install...all that's left is to seal the very small .040 hole left on the surface of the side piece after your done fitting the louvers to the car, fill the hole with a Polyester filler like Duraglas from USC don't use BONDO to make any repairs/or fill small air pockets/pock marks when your finish sanding/blocking/dressing your fiberglass pcs, Bondo doesn't bond well with fiberglass and will eventually lift, use a Polyester filler like Duraglas from USC

Drilled pilot hole circled below

Drill out the pilot hole to 3/16" dia or .186 dia. nothing larger as you want the stud in the side perimeter piece to have no side to side movement when mounted

Now you can remove/discard the pilot drill insert from the side perimeter piece boss, and insert the stainless 10-32 stud in the side perimeter mounting boss, then install the side pieces once again, installing the upper perimeter screw and inserting the now studded lower side perimeter piece into place, the stud will protrude into the trunk compartment where you attach the serrated 10-32 nut

NOTE; these pcs (perimeter pcs) only need to "sit" on the car, meaning you need to take the time for proper fitment, don't rely on the screws to PULL the pieces down to the body, this will only result in failure at a later date, the fasteners only need to be "snugged", not TORQUED or overly tightened....your dealing with fiberglass components not sheetmetal, so a delicate touch is needed

This is what your finished install of the perimeter pcs should look like, all but 2 of the fasteners required to mount these pcs are now hidden

This pic is to show you what retains the DRIVER's side of the center section, there's 2 cut out's in the side perimeter piece, that the 2 tabs located on the DRIVER's side of the center section engage

To install the center section, start by installing the 2 tabbed DRIVER's side first

Here's the PASSENGER side center section tab going into the PASSENGER side perimeter upper slot, you need to maintain the DRIVERS's side center section in place, while you SLIGHTLY tweak/angle the PASSENGER upper corner tab into place, a little tricky and scary as you need to flex the center section ever so slightly!...be delicate with this process

I left the center section PASSENGER side tab "dusty" from filing/sanding it so that it appears in the photos,

Then lower the PASSENGER side lower corner of the center section into place, my thumb is holding the spring loaded pin UP, you can see just the tip of the retracted pin before it disappears when the louver center section drops into place

Make sure the pin clicks into place, and you can see the thumb handle, if its up under the lower horizontal louver section, it's not locked into place, this pin is the only thing that secures the louver center section onto the perimeter pcs, failure to confirm it's engagement, means you'll be buying another center section in the future from me! when it blows off the car!

Later when you want to clean the rear window, or remove the center section for some reason, just do the opposite of the install, use your thumb to raise the spring loaded pin fully, lift the spring load pin end of the center section first, clearing the side perimeter section, then pull the PASSENGER side upper tab section of the center section clear of it's engagement, then slightly lift/angle the PASSENGER side upward, and pull the center section free of the DRIVER's side tabs/slots...NOTE; try and handle the center section with 2 hands and by the center and upper horizontal louver blades, trying to support the louver section by just the lower horizontal can result in possible fracture to the delicate cast vertical pcs of the center section because of the weight and force trying to support the structure when handling it

When your done installing the center section, just rotate the LOCKED spring loaded pin thumb end up into/under the lower horizontal blade so that it's hidden from sight

If you done good, this is how your finished install should look, now you get to remove it all, and start block sanding for primer/paint...if your going with a semi gloss black/organsol finish your paint build up will be minimal, but if your going with a color keyed finish to match the vehicle, esp Base Coat/Clear Coat the paint layers will start adding up, so you need to loosen up the tolerances of the fitted pcs with more sanding or filing of slots/holes/mating edges/etc, so that they go together after paint, something to test fit constantly amongst the fitted pcs during the paint stages, don't wait until the last coat of finish paint or clearcoat to find out your slots/tabs/flanges/etc don't fit because of paint build up or that they're scraping the paint

I'm not going to fool you, these are time consuming to install, I've done my best to make it as easy as possible for you, I trim all the pcs as close as possible, and fit them to one another, but at the same time leave just a whisker of extra mat'l for YOU to trim/dress accordingly for the best fit possible, as it's better to remove mat'l than to have to add it, so there's going to be a level of repeated install/removal to achieve the level of fit/finish you desire

Keep in mind, repro pieces come and go, I'll try and offer these as long as I can, and hold the price where it's at now...

P.S. when you buy these from me, they come from ME, no other hands/individual(s) are involved in their fabrication/fit/finish

Mike
