I know the 71 Plymouth and Dodge owners (72-4 as well) have waited some time for affordable rear window louvers in the factory "flavor" after being contacted by Moparts members Mike St Eloi and Jim Evans to get these things repro'd, the trigger was pulled, the big Thanks goes out to Mike St Eloi(Moparts member Moparmike1) for not only supplying original louvers to mold/tool from, but initializing the project, Jim Evans was instrumental in supplying the factory Dodge pcs...

Some tech: the original pcs were a combination of fiberglass lay up and fiberglass resin cast known as Cosmoplast, Chrysler had a majority of it's plastic/fiberglass components made in this fashion, the fashion in which these repro louvers were made is in the hand laid fiberglass resin/mat lay up, which is a little more time consuming than casting resin, but the end product is a stronger construction, all the visual details of the original pcs were captured with the exceptions of the the outer perimeter pcs, the backsides are just mat finish, not smooth like the original cast pcs, this was done to cut down on tooling and the fact that once mounted on the car you won't see the backsides, the center section however is finished as original on both sides, smooth for your viewing pleasure all other details are as the factory intended, all the molds were taken from original pcs in excellent condition, considering their age and delicate nature...

OK, the big concern, price...Full sets Dodge or Plymouth are currently $850, I'm offering them at this price because YOU the buyer will be required to dress the edges, detail and block sand the Gel Coat finish for primer/paint, I'll trim them out from the molds as close as possible and fit the pcs, but in order to keep the price down, the labour on my behalf must be minimized, if you require me to dress out and detail a set for paint, then the price will unfortunately rise into the $1500 range for a full set, individual pcs are available for those wishing to replace missing/damaged components, or for those who may be on a budget and want to procure a piece at a time in order to obtain a set, individual outer perimeter pcs will be $100 each, the center section at $550, thus totaling $850

...All the hardware to mount them is included, the original style spring latch is made just like the original, as is all the hardware

...Shipping: as expected shipping adds to the cost, generally the sets I've already shipped avg approx $150 because of the size, insurance, etc, etc

...crating: I charge a fee of $80 to provide a wooden shipping crate/box/packing for safe delivery, as these things are delicate in nature, original owners of these know from first hand experience how fragile they are!...So between the initial costs of $850 for a full set, $80 crating, and approx $150 shipping, it totals out to $1080.00 about as affordable as I can make it, shipping costs however will mark up or down the costs depending on your location/delivery route

I'll add a few pics, and some input later on, CONTACT me only on MOPARTS, via PM if your interested in a set, or individual components, or have questions
Thanks,
Mike

All pics are of the repros offered

Although a 71 year only option on Dodge and Plymouth, these will fit the 72-74 RR/Sat/GTX and Chargers as well, as they use the same rear window/roof/C pillar area as the 71's

Factory style spring retainer pin as original/factory...this is the backside, once the center is installed this pin is hidden from sight, reference first pic at the top of the post for what the assemble louvers look like, the pin is located on the passenger side as original

Difference between the Dodge and Plymouth components, just the side pillar pcs are different between the 2 cars, the upper and center section are identical between the 2 vehicles

OK...now the bad news, I currently only have 3 full sets ready to go, and about 15 outer perimeter pcs...these are time consuming to make

Don't wait too long Mark, I'm not a young buck anymore, plus my dance card is full with other projects, and weather/temp for me on the East Coast plays a big part in fiberglass production, and if you didn't catch it in the above posts, you could buy any of the pcs individually, helpful for guys with a budget/allowance to spend on the toys

Thanks
Mike

Wow... Somebody stepped up... I have the originals for my car, but this should make somebody happy.. I guess I need to head to the basement and see if my hardware is all there as mine was in the trunk when I bough the car. Kevin

I bought a set for my GTX and am very pleased with them. I had no interest in paying as much for an original set, as the car cost new! Mike was a pleasure to do business with as well

And a big thanks to Mike St.Eloi for letting me "jump" in line

Andy,

you could drive down to pick up a set? as some have...probably about a 6 hr round trip from Western NY? so the costs in fuel would be about the same depending on your ride...plus you avoid any shipping issues....

Thanks Dave,

If you ever need to add a 71 Superbird to your collection? you'll need a set of louvers for it

A few members have requested some information and pics regarding the installation of these louvers as they are a mystery regarding how they attach to a vehicle, plus some guys with finished painted cars have concerns as to what needs to be done to install these without damaging the paint or making a mistake installing them as a repair could be costly...completely understandable, so I put together a pictorial to answer these question

A big thanks to Moparts member Lyndon (member 71Charger R/T) for supplying me with the back half window section of a 71-4 Charger for this purpose

Although this is a Charger install, the Plymouth install is basically the same, and there's no need to remove the chrome trim around the window as this is not even related to the louver install.

The louvers install around the upper body line located above the rear window, that line has been highlighted for these photo shots, both the Charger and Plymouth exhibit the same distinct line.

Step 1: after all the outer perimeter pcs have been fitted to the car to confirm fit, I recommend taping the pcs onto the car, installing the center section to align all the pcs, and installing only the upper screws (2 total) one in each corner that tie the outer perimeter pcs together, then carefully align/measure/center the louvers squarely on the car, as pictured below

I also recommend if you have a finished painted car, that you cover any areas with blue painters masking tape, and covers, so that if you scuff the surface, you only scuff tape/coverings, as fiberglass is very sharp/hard, and if a piece slides/drags/scuffs over paint while fitting the pcs, it will cut the paint.

Keep in mind a majority of these pics are of "unfinished" louvers/pieces, they are basically as trimmed from the molds, and are in what I consider "as delivered" in a Gel Coat finish of white or black, the final trimming/block sanding/prime and paint is all on YOU in order to keep my costs down, unless special considerations on fit/finish were discussed, basically what you see, is what you get...

Mike

This is what the backside of the upper perimeter piece looks like, the install hardware is attached/supplied, the metal tabs are tool grade steel, not simply sheetmetal, they are very rigid, if they need to be tweaked, remove them (screwed in) because if you try and bend them while attached to the perimeter piece you could damage the fiberglass, or the steel threaded insert that retains the bracket as they are that rigid

After you've located the louvers on the car where you desire them, carefully remove all the pcs, except the upper perimeter piece which should still be taped in place, plus any pencil marks you may make to locate it properly, then you'll need to drill a hole in the steel tab located in each corner of the upper perimeter piece for a sheetmetal screw

note: the upper body line above the rear window is visible in this shot, highlighted silver line

After you've installed a screw in each corner, remove any tape, this is how the upper piece should fit
