I'm trying to install E-body SS springs on my '70 Barracuda (P3690460, 461). Thay are the 3600# versions. I have the extended, offset front hangers and the offset shackles.
How do you get the shackle in? Everything looks too short (see pic). I know these springs have much more arch than the stockers. Also know that the bottom of the shackle should be behind the top. Is there a trick to installing these? Or is something wrong with this set-up? I can get the left side together (barely), but no way on the right side (pictured).

Looks like A-body springs based on your picture. My E-body springs, if run on the last hole in the shackel willactually extend beyond the upper hole location in the frame and hit the rear valance.

Can't post pics from work, but I am thinking those are too short.

I would suggest to lower the car weight down on them and they will spread out against the frame and then the shackles should fit.

All SS springs are A body length.Thats why you need the extended hangers.I used the ones from Mancini as the MP ones for my 65 were wrong. On my B body with the correct hangers I had to pull the spring down a bit but they went right in.Do you have the diff itself supported and lifted? If not you will never get the shackle in.Rocky

Put your floor jack under the spring and lift the bottom of the spring until the rear eyelet pushes into the frame and lengthens it enough to install your shackle.

Be sure to coat the spring eyelets, bushings and shackle bolts with synthetic disc brake grease. It's about the only stuff that won't attack rubber, plastic or anything, won't wash out and lasts for almost ever. I use that stuff on anything that moves pins slides and wiggles, well almost everything...

On a related note, those 3600 lbs springs are WAY to stiff for an E-body. I know they are supposed to be the right spring for it, but it's going to ride like a truck with no weight in it. I learned that one from Dr Diff. Best rear suspension I've ever had on my car and I've tried 5 different combinations including Caltracs.

You need a pair of 3000 to 3200 lbs P3412002 Super Stock springs for the passenger side of a '68 Super Stock car. Use the same spring on both sides, so it sits even unless you are a drag racer only. These springs give the car a nice stance, rides nice and are smooth like luxury car on the road when good shocks are used.

Put some Bilsteins on it at a minimum if you are on a budget. A pinion snubber is recommended, but you can keep it a few inches from the floor so you don't get a stiff ride and it will still work as the car will squat and hook-up hard.

Great info. Thanks guys. I put the floor jack under the spring center and let it ride along the frame rail until the shackle would fit. I'll try these 3600's since I have them in hand. If they're too harsh, I'll look at the ones you recommended above. Thanks again.

From the pic I'd say there's no way to get the bottom of the hangar pointing rearward let alone the shackle even hooked up. Wrong extended front brackets would be my guess

No I'm thinking he's got the right springs and hangers? Got any pictures of the front hanger? You are using E body front hangers right for SS springs ? Not A bodys.

Some of those SS springs are really arched and need to be loaded to fit and broke in so to say. And ride like a truck.
I agree the angle looks bad, could be the picture?

E body springs have a longer rear length. All SS springs have a 20" front segment, but the rear length is different from a-B and e's. That is why they list them for certain body styles.

Normal issue with a new SS spring....Glad to read the floor jack method was a sucess{depending on when the car is assembled there might not be enough weight to keep the body in position}..If the frame paint would have been an issue you could have used something between the spring and the framerail to help slide it into place...

Keep an eye on the shackle when you lower the car and make sure it swings back into position for the initial lowering...

I've used those weight springs on different builds and have'nt felt the need to take any back off for ride issues but I love the straight holeshot they give...Most never notice the biased rake of the car

If you need an pinion snubber set close to the floorpan with a matched set of SS springs there's something wrong with the car and the way it was put together

Don't forget to use a longer shock be it the MP drag shock or going the "C" body rear shock route...Good Luck
