Has anyone else encountered a problem with the JEGS big block windage tray that has the reuseable gaskets on it leaking at the rear of the engine? I've installed one of these on my charger and it seems to be leaking in the area where the recessed holes would be for the rear main seal. Jegs says they have had no complaints and that they see no way that it could possibly leak. I am just curious if anyone else has experienced this issue as well.

There have been some posts on here recently about this that always seem to open up heated discussions. Milodon and ARP both sell stud kits for the oil pan and that may be a reasonable solution to the problem. I'm gonna put in a set next time I'm under there.

I just installed a pair of these and mine does leak at the rear, but mostly at the corners of the oil pan for some reason???. I've tightened and re-tightened the pan bolts several times and it still has a small drip. I have not complained to Jegs, but may do so it the leak doesn't stop.

Had the same problem on our 440, leaking at the rear, luckily it was on a dyno and I had to take the engine home to advance the cam so went back to the old set-up with Permatex Spray-a-Gasket, the red stuff, next time on the dyno, dry as a bone!! Sure glad it wasn't the rear seal!!

Jegs was good about the return, they've obviously heard of the problem before, good idea, bad execution.

Maybe the problem is fixed now, my gasket/tray combo was a couple of years old before I used it.

Not sure a stud kit will solve this problem, it's more of a mis-alignment of the holes on the tray that causes the whole part to wrinkle a bit, leading to the leaks.

Yep , obviously he installed the wrong bolts in the rear cap .....

I'm surprised the psycho chevy guy hasn't chimed in with his diatribe ...

I installed two of them on my sweptline's 383 mag. Only rear
leak I had was the main seal & not the pan. They leaked on the
front & sides only because I plugged the pvc into the wrong
port on the eddy carb & created too much crankcase pressure.
So I removed them & reinstalled the pan without a tray.
I'll be using one on my stroker motor.
My suggestion is if you're going to use a sealant with this
tray, use it sparingly.

It is a great idea in theory. I bought one for the 493 last Summer. They come unpackaged with no part number, just in a big shipping box with any other stuff you ordered. The one I got was for a stock stroke and did not fit my 4.15 setup. Again, NO part # to determine for myself that it was wrong before attempting to install. Jegs was cool about accepting it for a full refund.
