but what happened to a 383 4bbl Charger, Sport Satellite, or Coronet 500?
......

I thought those cars never got tips anyway. Neither did 70 383 N code E-bodies

Only non performance package (R/T, GTX, RR..) cars I can think of that got dual chrome tips were 70 A66 Challengers, 71 340 Challengers (non R/T), and maybe 71 Charger S/E 440 cars???

Getting off subject with tips, would be the 64-66 273 HP single big resonator chrome tips. Did every 273 HP get them? Or just Dart GT's and Formula "S". You could get a 273 HP Dart station wagon.

I believe we were talking N95 - "CA emissions" & N97 - "CA noise reduction". or was it N42 - "tips" on a Coronet R/T that started this?

You went down the road with the 383 Sport Satelites and Chargers.

I think 70 A66 340 Challengers should be added to that list since they got tips and they are really a fairly parallel car to a 70 340 Cuda.

My understanding is the Bee Hood was a STD option and the Ram Charger was Option you could check off

I also beleive that the 150 swipe dash cluster was a Std option and the Rallye dash was a checked off option as well...

Also... looking at n96 option it says not avalible with auto... I have a auto car with a N96 HOOD and a N96 code on fender tag...

Wow, this thread's had lots of action since I checked last!

As DodgeMaterial said, the Auto. refers to Automatic speed control, not automatic transmission. My '70 Super Bee is a 727 car with N96.

Cheers,
Dave

Yes, you would have: "H"-pipe, mufflers, over-the axle, resonators & tips.

HEMI b-body Exhaust "H"-pipe
RT 70 (2781 270) & LT 00 (NONE)

OVER THE AXLE w/RESONATORS & N42 - "CHROME TIPS"
RT 20 & LT 09 w/ N41 & N42 on:
HEMI Charger R/T, HEMI Coronet R/T, HEMI Super Bee

per 1970-'71 Chrysler Parts Catalog Jan. '72 edition.
Muffler - 3404 839
Resonator - 2883 923
Extension (chrome tip) - 2883 829

P45 - power assist - "deck lid release"

The option was a factory c-body option, not listed as available on a b-body.
Is it "factory original" to the car?
Is it listed on the b'cast sheet or original window sticker?

My guess: added by the dealership or borrowed from a c-body in the past 38+ years

For 1970

CHALLENGER
N95 - Evaporative Control System - required on all cars registered in the State of California (N.A. otherwise) .......... $37.85
N97 - Noise Reduction Package - required on all cars registered in the state of California equipped with 440-6 engines or 426 Hemi .......... N.C.

CHARGER
N42 - EXHAUST Bright Tips R/T w/HEMI (N.A. California) .......... STD
N42 - EXHAUST Bright Tips R/T (440-4 & 440-6) .......... $20.80
N95 - Evaporative Control System - required on all cars registered in the State of California (N.A. otherwise) .......... $37.85
N97 - Noise Reduction Package - required on all cars registered in the state of California equipped with 383-4 or 440 engines .......... N.C.

CORONET
N42 - EXHAUST Bright Tips Super Bee & R/T w/HEMI (N.A. California) .......... STD
N42 - EXHAUST Bright Tips Super Bee (383-4 & 440-6) & R/T (440-4 & 440-6) .......... $20.80
N95 - Evaporative Control System - required on all cars registered in the State of California (N.A. otherwise) .......... $37.85
N97 - Noise Reduction Package - required on all cars registered in the state of California equipped with 383-4 or 440 engines .......... N.C.

DART
N95 - Evaporative Control System - required on all cars registered in the State of California (N.A. otherwise) .......... $37.85

POLARA & MONACO
N95 - Evaporative Control System - required on all cars registered in the State of California (N.A. otherwise) .......... $37.85

Although not written in stone, here's my take:
N95 - for any car destined to be "SOLD" new in California, I'm sure some cars with N95 were SOLD new in other states due to dealer trades & sales bank cars that were not in demand in California. Any ordered car that was delivered NEW in the State of California should have N95. N95 concerned the fuel system: fuel tank venting, gas caps, carburetors, etc..

N97 - Noise reduction was accieved in different ways on different body platforms, again California "only".
E-body - eliminate N42 "bright exhaust tips" from 440-6 & Hemi cars.
B-body - addition of resonators on 440+6 cars. These are the same resonators found "stock" on Hemi cars.

N42 - none for California in:
440-6 & Hemi Challenger R/Ts
Hemi Super Bees
Hemi Charger R/Ts & Coronet R/Ts

I have the broadcast sheet for my car (WM21V0A) that is N41, N42, N95 and N97 if you still need it.

Just because a car was an L.A.built car dosen't necessarily mean that it had the California noise reduction package does it? What if the car was going to another state besides California?

I believe that's correct. Cars built at LA but not intended for sale in California should not be required to have the California specific articles, N95 or N97.

My 70 6-pack bee had an aftermarket exhaust system on it when I bought it, and it has a factory spring clip nut with a broken bolt still in it on the inside of the rear frame rail a little forward from where the hanger would mount if chrome tips were used. Does this sound like where a hanger would have been if the car had turn down pipes originally?

On the bottom of the rail or on the side , trying to remember where it was on my 68 sport satellite ?

It's on the inside of the frame rail facing the gas tank. If I remember right, it's about 6-8" forward of the holes for the chrome tip hanger.

There were 3 65 Valient cheapo 2 door sedans here when new. They all were 4 speeds and had the large chrome tipped resonator.
