I just picked up a set of Stage 6 heads, decent price, mildly ported, and one of the spring pockets has been unsuccessfully repaired, looks like TIG work. Build up was OK, little bit of undercut and they get into some porosity and smut where they ran out of argon coverage. I'll get a picture up, but it's not too bad. The repair is proud to the bottom of the seat. I was "told" it still weeps coolant after the "repair" and see no reason to doubt that.

I can TIG it, but I'm thinking that's the hard way round the mountain. Any reason I should not just cut this out with a rotary burr and epoxy fill with splashzone/devcon/bellzona and a spring cup? Cups seem like a good idea regardless anyways, so as long as I can shim to same height as the rest, anyone see an issue? S/F....Ken M

I would be impressed if the stage VI head was a good enough quality alloy to even be welded.

OK, pictures!

Like I said, mild port work, worth working on.

As for the quality, these don't look too bad. Many castings, the weld metal is superior to the base metal, how much filler you want to add? S/F....Ken M

Sorry I don't have any good advice on the repair.... but here's some ancient stage 6 reading.
