Plunge cut heads with three angle valve job by Herb McCandless, bowls blended,2.14 intakes, 1.81 exhausts, Comp hydraulic 268 @ .050 .540 lift in at 105.5, pro magnum 1.6 rockers,(made .570 lift) 10.2 static compression, 8.37 dynamic, 35 degrees advance, M1 mopar single plane intake, reverse dome KB hyperutectic pistons all set at .046 by machining chambers flat, 2 inch headers, 750 holley. Peak torque at 5,000was 506, 535 hp at 6100 rpm. From 4200 to 5800 the motor stayed aboVe 480 torque.
I figure that isn't too bad for a juice cam 452 low deck motor on pump swill non oxy 92. The motor lost power trying to mix 25 percent race gas.
Ron at R&R dyno service in Spring Lake Park MN was really surprised it didn't detonate and the power it made on 92.

Whats the comp. ratio with the reverse dome KB,s. The CCams 262 duration is capable of making more HP @ around 11.1 comp. So Im thinking its alot lower.

Josh Bishman put the combo together, Brad Moe owner driver. REREAD THE ORIGINAL, AS I ADDED ALL NEW SPECS GIVEN TO ME BY THE GUYS. The cam is a very old grind with actual 268/268/108 duration at .050 tappet lift. I ran one in a 475 cube motor on alky many years ago, great cam for bracket racing.

I agree! It is going in a 68 Roadrunner automatic, 4.30 gears, 30 inch radial drag slicks, 3800 race weight. We figure mid elevens, any comments on projected ET?

With the right converter low 11's are within reach IMO.If it is gonna live at the track an 850 may/may not e.t. better but it would be worth a try.

I like the tight lsa too. Not a bad combo. Ditch the 750 though, they have more on the table HP wise.

ET will depend on the vert, Im thinking 11.40,s 4000 vert or better 11.20,s with a more optimum vert of 4800 or so. Just a opinion, nice build though.

I would have thought a bigger carb would have helped, too, but a dyno carb of bigger cfm was tried(1,000?) and lost 3 hp! I am thinking there is some power in a longer collector, not sure what they had on the dyno though. The dyno headers may have had a long collector.

I'd be curious what sort of cranking pressure it has with only 10.4 CR and that big hydraulic cam. Between the reverse-dome KBs and that cam, I'm not surprised it runs well on only 92 octane.

In all my scratching to take down the info I now see the static compression is 10.2. The web site I use says that with a 59 degree close at .050 will give a cranking compression of 168 lbs, 8.37 dynamic.
I corrected the original post, as the dynamic compression was wrong, along with the static being listed incorrectly as 10.4

I was going to take a s.w.a.g. and say 165 max.

That thing should work good. I would leave the 750 on it.Great throttle response and it is a heavy street car. That car will be a blast to drive!!!!!

Did you try changing the jetting and timing with the race gas mix? If not maybe there is some power in doing that And add a 1050 Dominator with the tapered adapter also

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

The dyno operater Ron is one of the best, and I am sure they checked the AFR with the bigger carb. They did run out of time, as the next customer was there chomping at the bit. That dyno doesn't sit idle very long!

That bigazz cam is going to need a lot of converter to get that thing moving off the line.

It might also be happier w/ 1-7/8" headers instead of 2" to help reclaim some of the lost mid-range.

It's not the way I'd have built it, but it ain't my car or $$$, either. I hope it hauls a$$!

Nice! I love how you proved that too much octane in the fuel can cause you to hurt power.

The motor was built on a very tight budget, reusing some parts from a previous 383 build, and a used stroker assembly. The whole build was done for under $5,000. The headers for the car will be Hooker 1 7/8, and the converter that flashed to about 3600 rpm with the 383 (same cam) will be used behind this motor, which has a lot more torque. Considering the very flat torque curve, it should perform very well IMHO. My stab at it is 11.50s on a great day, maybe better. The average air on a good day here is 1400 to 2,000 DA, average is somewhat higher.

Sounds like it worked pretty well.
That is a big duration hydraulic flat tappet cam! 268 at 50 ! With a torque peak around 5000, but good torque down to 4200, that converter might get a stall speed close to 4000ish and work fine.

The reverse dome and matched chambers will work well at 10.2 CR and pump gas. I have run more CR (10.5) with iron heads and less cam (245 hyd and 256 solid) with the same piston design.

Great info, Jim. I figured that would be the case, but no actual experience to back up my thoughts. I figure the same on the converter. With it pulling that much torque at 3800 up, there won't be much left on the table by using the current converter.
That 268 juice cam is the same cam grind that back in 1997 pushed my Dart to 10.10 at 132 mph, using a rb at 475 cubes, 12.5 compression, 440-c bowl ported heads, and a tiny 750 alky holley, at 3180 race weight.
