I'm building my first Gen 2 Hemi. Need to know the capacity of these two pans (with or without filter).
Which would you guys recommend for an E-body (considering capacity, ground clearance, etc.)?

70-71 Hemi pan is probably the best stock pan Mopar ever made and it fits the Ebody nicely. Has good ground clearance, decent capacity and good baffling. Many people race with this pan using either s 3/8 or 1/2 internal pickup tube(both are readily available). Because it is fairly shallow you should use a windage tray(open up the slots a little for better drain back).

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Isn't the '70-'71 Hemi pan also the one that was used for the A-12 RB motors with the 3/8" pickup

No , 69 A12 used the 402 pan.

Op use the 70 up Hemi pan , why would you consider anything else ? You'll want to add the skidplate to your K frame if you already don't have it as the pan will be flush with the bottom of the k, maybe hand a smidgen below.

First, what is the application of the motor and the car. If this is a stock Hemi use the factory 70-71 oil pan. Now if you plan on spinning this motor and making lots of power then there are better choices. Give use a little more information on your Hemi build and car build.

Thanks for the info so far.
This is a 4.5" bore, 3.75" (477 CI) stroke street motor. 10.5:1, aluminum heads, small hyd roller, FAST EFI. 4 speed, 2.xx gears. '70 Cuda.
So, is the "402" pan a 5 qt (+1 in the filter), and the Hemi pan 6 qt? I was never clear on this.

Milodon makes a real nice stock pan for that application, with very good baffles. Its 6 qts plus US made. But also use their windage tray.

The 402 is a 5 quart pan, the 1970/71 Hemi-440 6 pak oil pan is 6 quarts plus one in the oil filter That pan rocks, my Duster ran very low tens and high nines with one on it, it worked very well as long as I had the oil level above the add mark a 1/2 quart or more I did let it get down close to the add mark one weekend, it had a very small valve cover oil leak, I was going to change the oil after that weekend so I didn't add any at home before the race, it ended up loosing a little oil pressure after letting off after the 1/4 mile at 134 MPH,I filled it up to the full mark after that run and it didn't do it again the rest of that weekend I shifted that motor at or above 7200 RPM and crossed the finish line between 6500 and 7000 RPM in the 1/4 mile, depending on which size tires where on the back I now use those pans on any build I can

Thanks for the responses, guys.
I ordered the Milodon version of the '70-'71 Hemi pan yesterday. Sounds like it is just what I need.
