Well, I decided to start driving my 440 powered charger after a few years, and I've quickly grown tired of the obnoxious exhaust.
Currently, its running factory manifolds, a 2.5inch full length exhaust with H pipe, two 40 series flowmasters, no resonators, and original exhaust tips. And its LOUD. I measured 92 decibels inside the cabin at a 60 mph cruise last week. That's ridiculous.
I'm totally over having a loud car. I want it to be as quiet and as comfortable to cruise in as a new Charger or Ram pickup. I don't want to be heard coming from a mile away anymore, and I don't want every teen in a mustang trying to race at every redlight just because of the exhaust anymore. And I want to be able to drive the car on road trips without getting fatigued from the noise. Not to mention the car is just too damn slow to justify being so stupidly loud. I'm so over it.
So guys, any recommended setups? I'm all ears. Thanks.

1971 Imperial mufflers used to be highly touted for your purposes. Quiet without too much effect on power.

Any decent turbo muffler should be decently quiet. The quietest though? Some old reverse flow if anyone still makes them.
Walker 21848 used to be the direct replacement for 440 cars, and very quiet. I don't think they make them any more though.
Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat

Haha, understood. Then lets say I want to get it as close as I can to them. Quiet enough at cruising speed where a conversation could be had in the cabin without yelling, or quiet enough that my ears don't ring after a 4 hour drive.

Haha, understood. Then lets say I want to get it as close as I can to them. Quiet enough at cruising speed where a conversation could be had in the cabin without yelling, or quiet enough that my ears don't ring after a 4 hour drive.
Once you quiet down the exhaust you will hear everything else it was drowning out , rattles under the dash , in the doors , the trunk , and the big one ROAD NOISE ... 
Long case Dyno max turbo muffler , a bullet glasspack type muffler as a resonator ... I'm pretty sure Accutate LTD. sells 2.5" stock looking resonator tail pipes ... and replace the H with an X pipe .

Like a previous poster said, the Walker Quiet Flow 21848 is no longer available. The replacement is a Sound FX 18230. This muffler is in the catalog for the B-Body 440 powered cars. I just picked up a pair for my Newport. They are 2.25" in/out, but they neck down inside the muffler to about 1.75". I'm not too keen on the restriction, so you may want to go with the Dynomax Hemi mufflers.

I bought some Walker Quiet Flow SS mufflers for the Convertible. They are supposed to fit a Imperial.
I am going to use them to replace the Super Turbo mufflers that came with the TTI exhaust system, but it is not going to be as easy as I thought. The Imperial sized mufflers are longer than the Super Turbo mufflers, and for them to sit up in the recessed floor pan area, the rear hanger will need to be moved back some and the in and out pipe will be shortened. I am going to weld collector flanges to the muffler outlet and tailpipe for two reasons, the pipes need to be pretty short for the longer muffler, and it will make removing the exhaust easier for transmission service.
If the weather is not too bad, and I'm not working weekends I should have it done in a few weeks. This week I'm rebuilding the Dana 60 with 3.54:1 gears. Anyone need some 4.10:1 gears

Incorrect sir. My stock 66 Coronet 440 383-4 car has stock style dual exhaust with direct replacement mufflers and you can't hear it idling next to a 3G HEMI. With all of the fans, buzzing, clicking, etc. that comes from new cars my stocker sounds like a Swiss watch. To be honest I was amazed to find this out. IMO the wind noise is a bigger deal in these old cars than exhaust note if the exhaust is stock.

yes stock replacement, flow restricting mufflers will make it as quiet as a /6 dart

Then get some sound reducing material and cover under the package tray, under the back seat and trunk divider.
