Greg - I may have to work my intake swap around the long awaited trip to the body shop! Your car looks awesome! Love the low profile scoop...nicely done.

Tony, I switched and the Victor was I think 5/8 to 3/4" taller. I don't think it was an inch. I had to redo the foam seal on my air pan, but I don't think it was that much. The Victor is taller and straighter runners, I have had a hard time getting good idle quality like I had on the M1. Maybe my engine is too mild for what is probably better suited to higher rpms (max HP @ 6600) .600 flat tappet, stg. 6 mild port, 11.4 comp. Anybody else have idle trouble with the Victor? I can't give you performance change cause I also backhalved the car over winter.

My car idles just fine once it's warmed up. I spent a good amount of time tuning the carb, including chassis dyno time.

you can find engine specs here:Bigblockscamp.com

Gregg, mine gets better when it warms also. Until it warms what does yours do? What carb and tuning did you do? Thanks, Don

Wouldnt an Edelbrock Performer RPM be better for that heavy car?

My (470") with Victor chugs a bit until warmmed up. After hot it runs great.

it would be nice to know what if any difference the clean up made...

Those were my intakes (I had both an unmodified Victor and the one on which I did the plenum mods) and the difference when dyno tested on Dwayne Porter's dyno was approx. 10 HP in favor of the modified piece.

Did a back to back test last fall between M1 Dominator and Victor with 4150 base and an adapter. Did two baselines then made the switch.
Car was ( at that time) 71 Cuda,440,3100# and saw approx .070 difference ( better with Victor). I cant say that the Victor or the adapter made the difference. Both these intakes were bone stock untouched. I did think the Victor ran smoother however, but didnt equate to any giant ET. I suspect the extra velocity and plenum area made the biggest difference.

When it's cold, it acts like a cold engine with no choke, no big deal. I had to re-jet, reduce the main air bleed size, reduce the idle feed restriction size, and open the power valve channel restrictions. Doing any of this without testing the A/F ratio is like shooting in the dark.

Typically, the Edelbrock intakes are very conservatively ported out of the box. They leave plenty of meat in the port to do your matching with. As such, they do not run steller times out of the box and pick up pretty good with a port match. I assumed that you did yours without any port matching. That could account for the smaller than anticipated gain.

Yes I realize that. Thats why I mentioned they were stock untouched. This way it was a true unbiased comparison. I also believe that I could have made a difference with a port match, but I was only comparing them in their "as is" states.
We knew we'd be changing engines in that car, but I will do a port match on it in the next car and document the change.
