3RD AND 4th digits of the vin
21 is a 2 dr sedan
23 is a 2 dr hardtop
27 is a convertible
29 is a 2dr sports hardtop(baracuda)

Can't get any easier than this. Sedan = pop out rear windows Hardtop/coupe = roll down rear windows

The rear windows in my 75 Coronet hardtop, WH23 didn't roll down.

"Post coupe" is usually what I hear, and have said myself coupe for cars with a post for years. Windows pop out. RM21
Hardtop has no pillar, roll down windows. RM23
Have seen/heard it called pillarless hardtop.

Post = sedan roll all the windows sown and you can sweep your arm from the windshield to the rear roof post = hardtop. The problem is that the automakers built different cars over the years, so the rules got blurred. In your specific case (1969 B body), the VIN will tell you what you have and will be easier to pass along to year one for ordering.

I agree with this. Also the 4 door without a post can obviously be called a hardtop, or a "4 door hardtop" An example would be a Buick Electra 225.
Only problem is that there is no "2 door sedan" in the above definition, which many people would say in a post car, if the rear 1/4 windows roll down its a sedan, if they don't (or they just pop out) like a Volare/Aspen its a coupe, but thats kind of a fine distinction.

Not correct.... A hardtop has no B-Pillar. A Coupe has a B-Pillar (post).
The line between a 2-dr sedan (post) and a coupe gets blurry, I tend to differetiate between posts & coupes as: A coupe has almost no rear window (E body cudas & Challengers are coupes), while a post has a roll down or pop out, larger rear window (roadrunner)
One things for sure, there is no hard fast rule with coupes vs. posts vs. 2-dr Sedans. These are all basically the same.

thats how Ive always been told. coupes were hardtops (no post). furthermore, coupes had smaller interiors than sedans. Sedans were big while coupes were small (think of the coupes in american graffiti- they had small cramped interiors)
