I have posted a few questions on this forum and you guys have been super helpful so here is another.. 66 fury 3 318 poly I am wanting electronic ignition I have heard other distributors will work on the poly. Is this true and if so what are they exactly?

Any later model LA distributor will drop right in, Think 73- 79 ??? The earlier single pickup are preferred. The other option is a points conversion kit, IE: petronix, Mallory etc.

yes, the draw back is if the aftermarket unit IE: in this case takes a dump, you either have to convert it back to points on the side of the road, or call a hook. They are typically very reliable, only seen 3 or 4 failures over 30 years.
The factory conversions on the other hand require a bit more work to install correctly but parts are available anywhere (usually). We are talking 30 old year technology, But they ( the MFR's) used the same stuff in millions ? of vehicles so the parts are typically available for the factory conversions.

just drop pertronix under the cap and it will work fine.
