I desperately need help before I get too far! Here's the thing...

!964 Dodge A100 Pick-up (think Little Red Wagon), stock 360 Magnum in the stock location. Any cooling experts here that can recommenda radiator manufacturer or specs to handle the cooling issue with A/C? I've already been warned these things didn't do well in the desert even with a /6 & no A/C. I simply can't believe that with today's technology this problem can't be solved. Thoughts?

one of the guys on this site, makes custom radiators, for any application. tell him your make, radiator opening size, and how many cores you want.

if you just want to spend money you have an answer---if you want the best value on a new radiator--go to speedway and use the double pass aluminum----if you are economical (tight) i would find an aluminum replacement radiator in a 78-88 dodge truck and measure to see if it will fit---have run a $30 pickapart unit in my 64 plymouth for 7 years with no problems---just put a 24 inch speedway doublepass into my 64 tempest and it cooled the hot car just fine....bob

Before you put a new rad in, I'd do a thorough flushing of the coolant passages in the block and heads to get rust and sediment out.

And after you get the radiator of your choice, remember air has to be able to flow through the radiator, not around, over or under it, and then, after the air passes through the radiator, it has to get out of the engine compartment. If the air can't get in to flow through the rad, and back out of the engine compartment again, the biggest, baddest, radiator in the world is going to have problems. Gene

i'd consider an electric fan setup, to aid the cooling, and possibly even to replace the belt driven one. that front end is like a wall going down the street, and i can imagine the air just piling off the front end, without going through the grill.

There is a nine bladed fan that will bolt onto the Magnum 5.9 V8 clutch fan in place of the stock 5 blade. I have the part number somewhere. There is a 7 blade fan too.

I am running the Evans NPG waterless coolant that would allow you to run +330 degrees without boil over in severe desert conditions. I have used NPG since 1998. I partially blocked my bypass hose down to 3/8 th inch square opening to increase flow to the radiator. Evans officially recomends a high flow pump instead of stock.

As far as a radiator I've had good luck with the Champions radiators sold on E Bay. Pick the biggest one that will fit without major modifications.

For fans my recommendation would depend on how the majority of the miles will be put on it. If it;s mostly highway or non-stop and go miles a 7 Blade fan and Haden Heavy Duty (thick)fan clutch would probably be best. They hit lockup at 210 degrees and even during the summers down here I haven;t had an engine get above that. If you hit stopped traffic or very slow moving traffic, you may have to throw it in a lower gear or even neutral though to flow enough air to keep the engine cool.

If you get into that type of traffic on a regular basis then my suggestion would be to get the best electric fan you can find instead of a mechanical one.

In either case use a fan shroud.

My 340 idled in Vegas this past July for over a hour in 110 degree temps. My car could idle all day long in those temps and not overheat.

The cooling system is stock with a 26" radiator and a 7 blade clutch fan. The motor is not stock and tuned correctly, it has edlebrock heads, Victor jr 340 intake and a 474" MP cam. Oh yea it has AC too which was running the whole time in Vegas. There's no heat risers in edlebrock heads, just so you know.

I have driven the car in Reno, Bonneville, Pikes peak all on 90+ degree days and it has never overheated. Stock is where it's at when it comes to mopar cooling, there's nothing better IMO.

I just got done running 100+ mph into Bonneville on this 95 degree day, my AC is on now in this video. It stays on all summer.
And my car is black!

you got an apples and oranges thing going on here---if you look at an a100 it has a restricted opening(small)and it flows into a doghouse(culdesac)----kinda like saying your cessna can glide further than my helicopter....
