So it's been almost 10 years since I changed the front end of my 71 Swinger from the SBP disc brake setup to BBP discs .. for the life of me, I can't remember what was involved - I think I got the brakes and spindles from a 73 or 74 A-Body, but not 100% sure.. I did whatever the "normal" conversion is.. what else does the conversion entail?

Since I'm going to have the entire front suspension rebuilt with new bushings and stuff - do I need to get different components for different year vehicles for things like the UCA's/LCA's - ball joints, etc? I don't remember if the UCA's/LCA's had to be swapped as well as the spindles... ?

Wish I had done a better job documenting what I did!!

From 1973 to 1975, the A body disc brakes were the same from the ball joints to the calipers. Sometime in 1976, they changed to a different caliper with a larger bore size. the 73-75 has 2.6" calipers, the 1976 models used a 2.75 size. The larger bore size provides more stopping power with the same pedal effort. I have these 2.75 calipers on the Charger. I also have a stock type 1975 Dart master cylinder and brake booster.
I always remove the thin metal splash shields when I work on these setups. They retain heat. I don't need them for protection from the elements because I don't drive my cars on gravel roads.

You'd need the disc spindle of course & everything outward on it (rotor/horseshoe adapters/calipers/bearings/bolts). The LCA is the same & need the 73-76 UCA's or I believe someone sells a tapered spacer so you can reuse the early UCA since the disc spindle upper hole is larger (since the later ball joint dia/taper is larger) & needs a sleeve to take up that space. As Franken said use 76 A body calipers (2.75" bore) (remans are pretty reliable/cheap). The spindles are mirror images of each other & interchange from side to side & I'd mount em so the brake hard line/hose frame mounting tab is on the opposite side (front to rear) as the caliper unless sway bars make you mount em on the back side. In other words if the frame tab is rearward/behind the spindle then mount the calipers to the front side & vice versa & if you need a longer hose use one from a 78 volare & cut off HALF of the metal bracket clamped on the middle of the hose.

Thanks guys.. so it's safe to say that when I upgraded the brakes, I also upgraded the UCA's in addition to the spindles and brakes... so this means that when I order the suspension bushings and stuff, I'll make sure I order bushings for the 73 Dart UCA's, and everything else for the 71 Dart

Highly likely that later UCA's were used instead of the earlier ones with the spacers so actually the only later (73 up) pieces (2) you need for the rebuild would be (73 up) upper ball joints, 1 on each side & (2) (73 up) disc lower ball joints.

And 73 up UCA bushings too, right?

I am almost positive that the 4 small UCA bushings (2 per side) are the same (early/late) since I think the Moog offset bushings for that are the same for early/later
