Can anyone tell me of any cross references for pedals for my 1970 Challenger - converting to 4 speed. I was at a swap meet on Saturday, and a guy was claiming that a set he had at home from a 1971+ B-body would fit???? I am thinking that they can't be right - but I am not well versed.

Thanks

The reproduction pedal kits that Brewer's sells says it fits 70-74 E body and 71-74 B body cars. They do list a different over center spring and pin for 70 or 71-74 model years so that may be a concern unless your using a diaphram pressure plate where the OC spring is not needed.

Looks like he might have something there!! I will have to see what he wants for it, and what he has for pieces, versus ordering a repro set.

Thanks for the help

The short answer is 'yes & no'.

The '71-4 B-body pedals are not a bolt-in, mainly because the large housing for the pedal assembly is different than E-body.

In most cases, the pedals are also slightly longer than E-body, but that doesn't prevent their being used.

The good news is that if you can get the B-body pedals inexpensively, you'll have everything you need to convert your E-body pedal housing.

In making sure it's complete, these are the parts you're looking for:

- clutch & brake pedals (and the pads should be trapezoid shaped, not rectangular). If you have later pedals, you can either use the later pads or grind the metal down to fit the earlier pads

- long pivot bolt & locking nut that the pedals ride on

- 'outrigger' - the triangular bracket that supports the long pivot bolt on the clutch pedal side

- over-centre spring & pin (1/2" diameter metal rod). As others have pointed out, if you're using a diaphragm type of clutch such as a Centreforce, then the over-centre spring is not required.

- optional: clutch safety switch & hardware

If you are in need of the pedal rebuild parts (new pads, bushings, bearings, up-stop bumper etc) I have some surplus kits here that will be less than ordering from the USA. Plus cheaper postage and no HST. PM me if you're interested please.

Good luck!
