Now the latest issue is the 80 psi oil pressure might be to much. Its bad enough that is was leaking from the cam plug until I pulled the motor and replace the the cam plug last Friday, the valve cover both leak(new stealth heads and mopar cast covers) but now I was running the engine last night at an idle when I heard a pop, I think it blew out the oil filter gasket........

The relief valve in the oil pump may be stuck?

What kind of pump High Volume or high pressure some of the high pressure ones where for industrial use with canaster filters.

Those MP valve covers have a reputation of leaking.

Does it stay at 80 psi or does it come down as the engine warms up? My 470" will make an easy 80 psi when 1st started but comes down as it warms up to around 40 psi warm idle. I have zero leaks. Those covers are known for leaks if you're not careful with gaskets, I have them on Eddys and had to trim the gaskets in the corners to fit right. Valve covers do not see full pump pressure, so I think you have a different issue there.

On my 360 motor, cold start-up produces near 70 psi (I run Valvoline 10W30 race oil)...once up to the op-temp it's down to about 40 psi.

Lets see, the pump is a millings HV, I'm running Valvoline 20-50w racing ZR1, the pressure pegs at 80 till its warmed up, then pressure drops to 70.
I pulled the pump last night, the relief valve wasn't stuck, but the spring seems to stiff.

Could try a 440 source adjustable pressure setup. I think they're only about $20. It's a copy of the Milodon that's about $50.

Try a lighter spring out of a stock pump or one of these is nice and adjust it to where you want. some have shortened the spring some not sure that is the best option.

Is that reading correct ?? ( off the dash gauge, or a seperate gauge plumbed in ? )

Do you run breathers on your valve covers ?

I have 80+ psi on start up, but it comes down after a few minutes of warm up,,,i also changed to 10w30 to get the pressure down a bit

We also "shaved" down the spring a bit on the oil pump to lower it a bit.

Way back when McCandless and all of us went through a period of cranking new small blocks and having monster pressure. Finally Herb figured it out. He inspected the Melling HV pumps and discovered they had milled the pocket for the plunger some 100 thou shallow or whatever and it caused the excessive pressure. He called them and explained and as I recall they did notta. So...I have always used std volume pumps on small blocks and stayed away from Mellings as a rule when possible.

mopar performance sells a shim kit that lowers the oil pressure by shimming out the relief valve plug

what weight oil ? I have 80 at startup...runs 65 when warm with 20-50
Had another that would have about the same but at idle still was 40 lbs...nothing wrong there as I see it

I would drop the oil weight down to a MAXIMUM of 10w30 and closely inspect your oil pump's relief valve. 80 psi is too much, period.

80 psi is certainly way more than you need, but it is not the cause of your oil leaks.

If your hot oil pressure is 80 psi, I would reduce the pressure through the hand full of methods described by others. If not, you don't need to change anything.
