I'll have to post pics but I just hung a set on my moder and they rock. The center plgs angle away from the tubes perfectly and the end plugs angle right AT the tubes. but the tubes loop out so far that it'd be easy to fit a 90 plug boot on them with 1/2-3/4" to spare (haven't measured). Again I'll mock up with a plug and picks (after work).

PLUS the Flowmaster ball & socket adpters that Moparts member whiplash suggested (cut off the 3", 3 hole collector style plate and weld on a 3" tube to 2-1/2" exhaust pipe ball & socket connection/reducer) will allow me to tweak the collector if needed. I really intended just to use these for a run-in stand but they don't look too bad.

I'm standing at a robotic machine. Supposed to be programming (darn wireless internet access)! I'll snap some pics in about an hour.

An easy 1" from the end of the plug to the rear tube. These are the std length NGK's - shorty plugs whould be even better. I think this would be VERY acceptable.

The frt plugs are even better cause the tube angles away from the plug more.

Heck, I'd be inclinde to RUN these on my car if I had them coated! Maybe I should save $500 and cancel the TTI's?

Those are what came off my car. I had never seen 'em before that. What's the skinny with a set of Shortys? Are they worth anything used? He wants to give $50.

Are they easier to work with per say against a full length set?

I bought them for a test stand but MAY just get em coated and use em if they look like they'll fit when I get the moder in my Challenger. Supposedly drop right it with a 383/400.

I have a set of these on a 383 in a 71 Challenger Convert…they hit the steering linkage! The collector dumps directly into the drag link/tie-rod area and it gets hit when you turn the wheels. They do not fit! Granted this is a 915 iron headed motor.

Good Luck!

Dave

I plan on cutting the collector off and welding on a Flowmaster ball & socket reducer from the 3" Hedman to a 2-1/2" exhaust pipe IF I put them in my car. Then I could change the direction of the outlet. thanks for the heads up though. Have any pics? So they at least were usable?

Looks really good Jim, thanks for posting those pics!
From what you see, do you think spark plug clearance would be any better/worse with a set of iron heads?

Thanks alot!

Brian

I'd have to take a looks again but with the straight plugs the end tubes would be fine but the center plugs would be closer. The center tubes wrap down close to the block. I actually think they would be better with the E heads. BUT Moparts member whiplash HAS them on iron heads and turned me onto the ball & swivel mod. He emailed me some rocking pictures and I actually posted these to repay the favor. Maybe he'll post them here.

Hey, I'd give $60 if they look as nice as Jim's. Flip them upsidedown, weld on some water injection bungs, ceramic coat them and use them on my boat.

Shorty's won't make the big HP like most want but they'd be good on mid-to-upper torque.

My 73 Challenger w/440 906 heads has the shortys with only slight dimpling at the steering column, and a very small dimple on the #2 tube on the passenger side. I have not used anything else so there is nothing to compare them against.Oh,on the # 2 plug I have to use a wrench on the socket. Hope this helps.

That's a good plan! I slit a wedge out of the collector and rewelded. Your way is a better idea...

No pics...sorry!

Moper, I tried a set on a 72 scamp with a RB 440, and they would not fit. I could make the passenger side fit with a hammer , but the driver's side ran 2 tubes into the manual steering box. You would have to cut and reroute tubes.
