The best is none, mill the manifolds flat and put them on.

This is how the factory installed them originally.

Now I will have the manifolds milled flat , they are ALL warped ... except maybe NOS ... and use the gasket that comes in the fel pro gasket set.

what ever gasket you chose to run the key is having a clean FLAT surface to seal against. Put the manifold down on a clean flat surface , use your kitchen counter when the wife isn't around, and look at it , the center 2 ports are probably not even touching the counter.

Remflex work excellent. I can help you with them. I like the MR G Ultra Seals as well, but not as forgiving as the Remflex, but still a good gasket.

The port size on Most performance or header gaskets are substantially larger the the stock port sizes in the heads and manifolds.

look at a Mr. G ultra seal on a stock port big block head . With manifolds there,s very little sealing surface in a few areas with these gaskets.....

Thanks to all for the replys..

I had the manifolds surfaced when I restored the car, so I know they "were" flat.. Car is still in Oregon ( I now live in Florida). Drove it when on vacation back "home" and developed an exhaust leak. Tried to just loosen manifold and pull out the gasket, then retighten the manifold.. Lets just say it didn't work.. Hated to leave my car "broken" when I flew back to Florida..

I thought about not using gaskets when assembled but chose to use them.. Will try some remflex next time "home"... Need to get it running to load on transport to Florida...

Rick

The 1978 cop E86 (440) ones were great - thy had a built-in heat shield to prevent toasted valve cover gaskets.

I may have a few spares...
