#12 DALE PONTZIOUS 1952 PURPLE FORD F1 TRUCK
Day 1 11.633-113.54
Day 2 11.720-113.20
Day 3 11.575-114.79
Day 4 11.568-113.75
Day 5 11.606-114.22
5 Day Average: 11.6204-113.900

When Mr. P Body decided the small block Rampage wasn't up to the trip, he called shotgun in his buddy's slick Ford truck, so I've added it to the list as well!

Thanks Billy... it is a nice truck... runs well...
we didnt touch it all week... it could have had a
leaner jet setting but Dale didnt want to.... damn
it was hot all week..... I did have my Rampage finally
figured out 2 days before we left but I had already
dropped out and made my call to ride shotgun with Dale
and we had our plans set.... the heads were bad...
so now its a 416 W-2... see you next year.... great
write up

Rick's Big Road Runner is easily one of the most beautiful cars on Drag Week. That first day is the slowest pass he's carded in the last several years, but I don't know the story on what was going on!

Rodney's gorgeous Dart was showing off it's red butt stripes to many more cars this year, as he picked up a solid 4 tenths over last years average, and needed every bit of it to qualify in the DD Quick 32.

5 Day Average: 12.847-109.47

George is Drag Week's elder statesman, Scott and Kim Abbott keep an eye on him during the event, and though he may chafe under their assistance occasionally, I know he appreciates it. It's an interesting dynamic to watch during the week, and one that rekindles my belief that kindness, decency and respect are still alive in this world. George debuted his Colt last year with a 13.87-100 average, so he shaved a full second off, and added nearly 10mph this year!

That part I said about decency and respect? You can throw all that out the window when the McGinnis boys get together!
One of them was smart enough to move to Oklahoma, and the other one is just jealous!

If you remember my 2011 story, Darren used my 62 Valiant to deliver his daughter to the 50 yard line for Homecoming Royalty. This year Dale's daughter demanded the same of the Barnyard Viper, so it was pressed into "parade car" duties after completing Drag Week. Boone drove it 70 miles each way to meet her wishes!

After that it was the Mopars At The Park race at Tulsa. Dale had his spare powerglide and converter in the Gremlin, So he drove it to the track, with Boone following him in the Barnyard, pulling the trailer which was too big for the Gremlin! The grand entrance, and intense attention for the Truck didn't end well as Boone struggled with dead batteries all day, and only made 2 passes. 11.55-117.8 best, the mph was up, but 60' was a tenth off, as the thirty year old lightweight Super Stock rear springs are just completely dead, and wrapping up. New 002/003 SS springs are awaiting installation as soon as the weather cooperates. The Gremlin responded to a better converter with 10.50's, but still only at 122, as the 440 refuses to pull over 6200 rpm. I think it's springs, he thinks it's ignition, both will get changed this winter.

Now who wants to wager that these projects shall be occuring in about 300 days, the week before Drag Week begins next year

Again, thank you for taking us on the journey and sharing your stories.

In Memphis, it would not shift, so I adjusted the clutch up to make one last pass before they closed the stageing lanes, drove right through the clutch when I left the line. I thought I had adjusted it up to much (but it shifted well) any way, I backed the adjustment off a bit, loaded up and headed to bowling green. At bowling green I really tried to ease it down so I could a least finish, and I did, to the 13.627-105.39. I then called it a day and put it on the trailer, just completly elated that I acutally finished my first dragweek. Got home, and a week later pulled the 440 out and begain the plans for a 505 (in progress). When I pulled the scattersheild off, I was startled to find one of my pressure plate bolts had broke! and it went all over the place in the can, little dents everywhere! I begain wondering about the quality of the bolts I was useing, when I realized I had been using those same bolts for probably 20 years (through all the different clutches and combinations that have been in the car) and on top of that they probably came from a parts car! so no telling how old they are! to sum it up, I ordered a new set from Brewers, so maybe I won't loose a clutch next year.

Tell your brothers to look for me next time they have battery problems. I manage an Interstate Battery distributorship that's two miles from the track.
