X2 on welding a washer on. It'd cost a bit plus the trips to the welder but trust me it's well worth it & if you try to get it out any other way you will regret it. I'm assuming you are going with OE type LCA bushings (recommended) rather than poly so yes the can outer shell does have to come out as it is part of the new bushing

I take it the threaded end needs to come past the k frame and.out though the shell? will be using a rubber frontend does the new parts come with shells?

I know this wasn't the OP's question but I read a cool trick on FABO that I'm going to use on my Dart. It seems way easier then welding a washer to the bushing shell.
I purchased an 1 3/8"(I think) tap for $12 on E-bay. What you do is clamp the tap in a vise and screw the LCA onto it. Then you just press against the tap.
I assume an E and B body would require a larger tap but it should still work the same.

Nope, all the LCA bushings are the same on A/B/E cars. I also bought a tap, but I have yet to use it...

Not a bad idea ... if you're lucky enough to find a cheap tap, pay shipping and wait a few days for it to arrive then never need it again. How many LCA's would a guy do in their lifetime ?!?!?
The washer trick is quick and simple and guaranteed to work. If you don't own a welder there's usually a shop nearby that has one - and will usually weld the washers on for a coffee.
Not knocking your idea, just saying that the "KISS" principle is usually best.
How many LCAs?? I've probably done 30 or so...
