What was the first year that they put those little resister's at the coil and did they hook up to the neg. or positive part of the coil???

If you mean the small one at the coil itself.It was years ago like 55 or 56.They arent a resistor.They are for radio supression from the ignition.Rocky

Correct. They are noise suppressing condensors.
