I'm having my 440 rebuilt and it has to go .060" over bore. Stock rods. I would like to use forged pistons, but most or all that I have found so far are made from the 2618 alloy, which is more suited for a racing application. Would 2618 pistons be suitable for the street. It's going to be a 10 to 1 motor using Edelbrock heads,(84cc)chambers, and whiplash cam.

Thanks

I'd grab another block. See recent post on .060 over pistons. Also, 440's apparently like to split at .060 over. Much better if kept to .030 over. Not what you want to hear I know. Got one under the bench myself. Building a 400 based 451 now.

440 splitting at .060 I've built a bunch of 440 blocks that where 4.375 and 4.380 and I have never split or heard of a one splitting at those sizes. I'm not saying they won't, what I'm saying is that is not common As far as the piston alloy one of them requires a lot more cylinder wall to piston clearnces, the one that uses less clearances seems to be a little more delicate, the skirts are not as hard as the other alloy, but there is not a problem with wear on the skirts on the street using them I stared using the closer alloy pistons back in te early 1990 based on not wanting the pistons to rock as much sideways when reversing directions on the power stroke, I wanted the ring seal to stay as good as I could get it It worked My memory doesn't allow me to say the proper # for that alloy, sorry

Cab's certainly built many motors so I'd go with his recommendations over mine. As for the alloy, I believe that the 2618 is a stronger alloy but higher expanding thus it needs more clearance than the 4032 typically. I think the only concern there might be a slightly noisy piston when cold. Hopefully someone will confirm that for you.
