I am starting to lean very strongly that given the year, and that it was at Rockingham. That the car in the "far" lane is what ultimately was / or became the blue Nationwise Rod Shop car.(#2041)

Thanks Stewart. I finally enlarged the photo and I am wrong. I saw the tucked-in front bumper and it looked just like the Wire Car photo I have on my desk. I'm heading to the basement to look for my Rod Shop file.

Stewart you say the yellow car has been restored, to what appearance? Is it back to yellow with the black stripe?

I could agree with that. The two look very similar.

The Duster Missle in Big's museum has a strut front end installed by Ben Donhoff in the early '80s as it was wrecked when he bought it. As Stewart P posted above, it's all changed from the firewall forward. Donhoff said it was easier to put a strut front it it than to put it back original. Besides, he just wanted to race it and at the time didn't care much if it was original.

The Nelson D - Mopar Missile car - my car, did have the Challenger door handles, when we rolled the car over in the sand, that was one of the changes we made.

That Demon is one of his first/early cars and the one I was wondering if it was reskinned to one of the Dart Sports.

Also, what may of may not be a clue, the far lane Dart Sport has the lettering centered above the front wheel opening, like the B/Altered car #3263 in this photo.

I noticed that same thing last night.
Did they use stencils for the small lettering back then.???
Maybe just 2 different stencils.

Also what is the "Blue Logo" on the qtr.panel in that photo.? Must have been before "Spring Road Auto Sales" joined up. Looks like it says MPC

Just speculation because I don't know for sure. But I'm under the impression that "Spring Road Auto Sales" was an early sponsor/supporter because it was on his Dodge Demon. Then it was transfered to the Dart Sport(s) early on and phased out as his sponsor list and notoriety grew.

Anybody know how to get in touch with his son about any of this?

MPC was a sponsor on the Missile. I think interest was waning, as the sponsor's names became less recognizable. Ultimately, I think that led to the Rod Shop stuff. Money has always been a major issue.
