I have the original fuel tank from my 37 Dodge PU that should be the same as what was original to your truck. I believe it is still solid. You are welcome to it.

Mike,I might take you up on that offer, I'm not sure if a stock tank will work with the 302/auto and maybe that's why it's missing.

It won't be going anywhere. I am going the old beer keg in the bed route. The stock location for the tank can be problematic for dual exhaust (somewhat the same layout as the under bed tanks on the 70s D100s).

I figured that was the case, if I end up making a tank that fits under the bed behind the axle, we might want to make one for you at the same time if you want to go that route, I calculated I can make a 16 gallon tank yet still leave room for airbag/4 link suspension

I was thinking this would be a good opportunity to update the rear leafs. Not sure on trucks, but pass cars of that era have some honking thick spring packs that are 2" wide. That donor being a tow truck of some sort probably had even stouter spring packs.

But the price is good.

They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

Theses springs in these years are only 1 3/4 inch wide, the ones on this tow truck have as many leafs as mine, I will post a side by side pic when I do the swap

Looks like I'm going to use the gas tank out of a 93 Geo tracker, a little small at 11 gallons but it will fit with very little fabrication

Making progress! Make sure it has oil pressure before starting. I dislike those hex drives in SBFs, but the make it easy to prime!
Type F only in the trans!

BUT you MUST ALWAYS prime the oil pump mechanically before starting your new engine for the first time. If you do not own an oil pump shaft priming tool, you can easily use a 1/4 inch extension with a 1/4 inch socket taped to the extension and chucked in your drill. Proceed to spin the drill counterclockwise for 15-20 seconds, rotate the engine 1/4 turn, continue to run the drill again for another 15-20 seconds and turn the engine over by hand another 1/4 turn. Do this until you have turned the engine over a full revolution AND you have oil at all pushrods.
