might be gettin this 63 b-body 8 3/4 rearend for a very good deal.i know it has the tappered axles and the nut in the center of axle.i was wonder what the length of the axles were? i was goin get some custom made axles for it or get some c-body 8 3/4 or truck axles have them cut down.so i can rid of the tappered setup it has.

I offer a 1 piece axle package for '62-'63 B-body rears.

E-mail me if you are interested.

The C body and truck axles wont work in the 62/64 rearends . You would need to cut your ends off and weld on the 65 and newer ends. Theres a difference in the bearings..

Dr Diff is your go to guy in this case..

Although they are wider, '65-'70 B-body rears will bolt in '62-'63 B-bodies.

E-body rears are wider yet, and require modification.

I put a 65 B-body Plymouth rear in my 63 and it fits and works great. I would either find a 65-70 rear or let Dr Diff set you up. Ron

I am sorry! I was recalling an E body into a '60 Fury C body!

The '62-'63 axles are tapered so they don't relate to flanged axle lengths but they are around 30 1/2" overall length. (end of splines to end of thread)

If you're looking for the equivalent flanged axle length to fit the '62-'63 B-body housing it would depend on whether or not the center section is original and whether it has Sure-Grip or not (prior to '64 axle lengths changed with Sure-Grip or not).

To replace the tapered axle with a flange axle in a Sure-Grip rear end you'd need an axle length of around 25 7/8" which is well within the range that can be attained using a shortened/resplined factory axle.

53.25(housing width) + .25(2 backing plate) + 4.8(2 flange stand-out) -1.5(thrust block) = 57.05

Axle length = 57.05/2 = 28.4

Only a few stock axles can be shortened to yield this length.

if i don't get those axles from you, what axles can be shortened to those lengths?

Doc's info is correct, a pocket calculator needs a brain to work correctly....sorry for the wrong info.

Because of a step down in diameter near the splined end of the axle shaft, 28" is the accepted maximum length for shortening/resplining most axles and a 31" axle with minimum step down is needed but a rare few don't have a long step down and might finish out to 28.4"

IIRC the bearings/axles between the 62/64 rear axle and the bearings/axles from a 65 and newer rear axle are not interchangeable.

1965 and newer wheel bearings will not fit your original axles. In addition, you can not reuse your original brakes or inner seals if you convert to 1-piece axles.
