Aluminum colored part of switch that key goes in, just spins on cylinder. we have a car show Sunday , and no way to start the car. what can we do, will a screw driver slip into column and turn actual switch?
any suggestions (short term?)

how do we fix it the right way after the show?

there is no slot in there to turn...

pull the steering wheel, locking ring and replace the tumbler..

I am truckless..

The key will still fit in if you line up the slot in the outside alum part and the slot for the tumblers. Short term you should be able to get it going. After that you will need to dismantle the column and pull the key mechanism out. The alum part just has some places where the tabs are bent over to secure it to the tumbler housing. You may be able to bend them over again and fix the problem. If not you will need to find a new keyed ignition. 70s are easy to find.
