What is the best way to get the ester oil into the system? Can you suck it into the system with vacuum? Compressor is dry. Thanks- Pat

Yes, you suck it in while the system is under a vacuum.

If it's a replacement compressor the oil should be put into it, and cycled by hand before it is bolted on. Anything different is asking to seize the compressor.

Original compressor, just cleaned and drained. Man that gold Challenger looks familiar. My first Challenger was a gold 71. Thanks for the replies- I hope she is on the road in a day or so.

On original RV2 compressor, there is a sump that holds oil and needs to be filled with proper amount (see factory service manual). On the passenger (right) side of the compressor, there is a cap that you can remove to fill the sump - think of compressor as a 2cylinder V engine, and then look at FSM to see what is needed for proper fill. The FSM shows you how to use a dipstick for the proper fill. Then from there you or your ac tech can do the vacuum test and pull any further amount of oil into the system.

Cheers

Mark

I used the little cans of ester and heated them with a heat gun. Worked for me.
This was on a taurus that still had marginal pressure in the system and I didn't want to open it up. Then I used the same method to put the R134A in until the pressure was high enough to cycle the compressor.

Yes 11oz it says. Saw small plug on lower driver side ( this is a 65) so I may have to use that. Gonna have to find a really long skinny funnel tho. So should I put all 11 oz in the plugged hole?

The whole system might hold 11 oz. but it's dispersed throughout the system, not just in the compressor.

You need to be careful of introducing too much oil into the system at once, especially if you do not have refrigerant in the system as you could end up hydrolocking the compressor with oil and trashing it pronto.

Most techs do as noted earlier, fill the compressor with some measured amount of oil, cycling the comressor to distribute it, then installing it and adding R134. You load the rest of the oil into the receiver/dryer, or later on a siphon line or as part of a cylinder of mixed oil and R134 to top off.

If you have not opened the system up, I'd be very concerned that you will have problems due to the contaminated receiever-dryer you surely have and older porous hoses and fittings too.
