anyone every airbrush or paint the needles on the gauges in their cluster? i have a super nice instrument cluster but the needles on the speed-o, amp gauge, fuel gauge, and fuel gauge are faded. i don't really have to send the whole thing out. i am pretty good with an airbrush and was wondering if anyone knows what color they were when new. fluorescent orange or red? it is for my 69 road runner.

I've used this product before:

http://www.hipoparts.com/fluorescent-speedo-gauge-needle-restoration-paint/

It looks great and is very easy to do. Put a piece of paper behind the needle and brush it on!

About 10 years ago, I used a Testors model paint that was made to paint amber turn signals on models and it was an exact match. I have no idea if it is still available. I think is was called 'Testors Turn Signal Amber'.

Airbrush!!! Really??? Just to do a few needles. You're a glutton for punishment!

I used a brand called "Model Master" acryl in flouro red. The part # is 4703. When wet it looked a tad to orange but when it dried it was perfect..

I am truckless..

I got aspraycan of "Bright White", sprayed a little on a piece of cardboard and used a fine artist's brush.
I slid a piece of paper behind the needles to avoid a mistake...
came out GREAT!

I used Testors fluorescent paint, but I bought a few different colors, I think red, yellow, and green, then mixed them for the color I wanted. It worked pretty good. Gauges still look good 20-years later.

Be worth it to try a little cut and polish compound on the existing paint; might bring it back to original color and brightness and save the hassle of trying to get the right paint color.

I used orange. It looks OK to me. I'll get a couple of pictures and send them. I'll look around and see if I still have the paint. It may take a few days I'm away from home on business.

This isn't a great picture showing the orange painted needles but it's the best I have at the moment.
