Trying to get the reverse gear (manual trans) indicator to work on my 70 Chall. Checked switch on trans works fine. Harness from switch goes to bulkhead connection and has a Black/white tracer wire with a female slip connector coming form it on the engine side. Inside I have the light with a single orange wire. I replaced the harness during the resto with a YO for 4 spd. Can anyone tell me how AI can get this to work? (This is a 4 spd conversion)

The trans switch is the ground for the light, The 12v source comes from a connection under the dash,
SO,
test #1 if you have 12v at the light connector with the key on, (think test light) step one is complete.
If not you now know why the light isn't working.
if you do,
that would indicate You either have a connection issue between the trans and light (IE: ground) or the trans switch is not working. If you jumper the output wire at the trans pigtail to ground and the light works the trans switch is bad or the linkage is misadjusted not allowing the internal lever to fully activate the switch,

I checked the trans switch and it is working. Also there is a 12 v xource at the light. how do I wire from the switch to the light? The harness is now hooked to the bulkhead connector and I can't find where it comes out under the dash

HELp,I'm struggling here.... I have one orange wire coming from the reverse lamp and the socket is grounded to the dash. The two wires from the trans switch go to the bulkhead connector and there is one wire with a grey female slip on connector coming from the connector on the engine side. On the other side of the bulkhead conn, all I can see are 2 white wires exiting and one looks like it goes to the brake switch I don't see how this can work electrically. I'm a body man that operates heavy equipment so bear with me guys

Positive voltage flows from the fuse block to pin 8 on the bulkhead connector through the reverse light switch and back through pin 7 on the bulkhead connector and eventually out to the reverse lamp in the taillights.

If you look at the diagram 71 deputy posted you will see that the Positive voltage is sent to the dash lamp from pin 7 on the bulkhead connector.

You need to find the connector that comes from pin 7 on the bulkhead connector. It is on the engine compartment side of the bulkhead. IF you have the correct dash light then it will have a long pigtail with a grommet on it.

I do not have my 4 speed car close or I would track it down myself to show you. Sorry about that.

Hope it helps
